Game idea - Supercruise ship cloaking/signature change

I like the open play and PvP aspect of the game and think the following idea might add an interesting twist it could also apply for PvNPC to make interdictions seem more creditable ie my flying a Python and getting interdicted by an Eagle. This could be something the engineers could do?!

My idea is for some sort of ship signatuer type changer/cloaker to be available in outfitting that can be used while in supercruise.

I think this would be good, say I fly a big well specced battle ship and another player is looking at taking out other players he may not go for me although I would like him to. But if my ship signature was either disguised to look like a Hauler or even unidentifiable he might consider it. It could also work the other way, a player in a small ship wanting to avoid getting interdicted could give off a different ship signature like an Anaconda to scare players off.

It sounds interesting.
Overall i like the idea of "Illegal Modules", hidden cargo racks, signature masking, banned weapons and those things.
the Signature Masking would be usefull for both sides, pirates could hide behind a harmless trading ship and ambush other traders, while traders could pose as combatships.

it could also be interesting if you could fake stats, so taht the harmless trader is suddenly an elite fighter, or has a different name, or is shown as NPC instead

but how could you balance it?
using a module would be obvious i think, but should it be illegal in some systems? should the size of it determine which ships you could choose from?

Balance could come from better sensors having a higher chance of being able to detect the spoofed signal.

Being noticed using one by security would result in a large fine, and they'll try to interdict you to see what you really are, and what you're carrying/doing.

This is a nice idea, I like it a lot. Gives pirates opportunities as well: "Oh, it's just a Hauler, let's just fly straight to the stati- why is the Hauler interdicting meohgod" :D

I like the idea of descising myself as a Sidey, getting interdicted by a wanted player only for him to find I'm in say a battle ready FDL!

On the whole changing ships via a module would cause all manners of hurt.

I prefer the Elite cloaking system where your ship vanishes from scanner and view but consumes LOADS of battery.

Masking internal components would also be cool maybe when scanned it could show unknown but would require power.
