Game is laggy

ED is currently very laggy, almost unplayable. Are others experiencing this as well?

Update 30 Dec 2020: VPN is the solution. I installed NordVPN and immediately the lags were gone. The cause is my ISP's peering policy trying to make extra money by letting service providers pay for better peering.

Update 02 Jan 2021: Tried the IPv6 solution recommended in #59 , it works as well and it's free.

Define "laggy" - load times, rubberbanding, FPS?
And: are you in Open or in Solo or in PG?
Rubberbanding can get bad in Open, depending on who you're instancing with, and FPS will drop in stations or on planets in any case.

Playing in Solo, see a lot of spinning diamonds while interacting with spaceport services. Logging into the game and start-up sequence took also significantly longer as usual, same with frame shift jump.

So it's load times and delay in server communication, I think.

Not in game right now, but guessing from the forums, that has been going off and on for the whole day. It might get better (or worse) if you quit to desktop and then quit and restart the launcher (so the launcher can try and connect to a different physical server). Otherwise, a lot of new players plus Amazon Black Friday (Elite is running on Amazon's AWS) will have the Hamsters struggling hard.

Waited some hours, same problem. Lots of spinning diamonds while interacting with station services (Power Contact).

YES! Game is HORRBILE today! Thought it was my computer, somehow, but it must be the game. I get a steady 100+fps, always, now, today... getting like between 17fps and a high, if lucky, of 80fps but it's horribly laggy and choppy. It's nearly unplayable and certainly unenjoyable!

I hope that's it. I mean, it must be, just not sure why today and not last night, did I have this tank in fps. Did something happen TODAY that would have put a huge hit on their servers? And, why the heck would they not have been ready for 200k new players?

Again, today, game is laggy as ****. I'm collecting Powerplay actions ath the Power contact in Lembava. Lots of the spinning stand by diamond.

It's unbearable. Game experience is at a low, at least for me. Spinning stand by diamonds and/or lags all over the place: FSD jumping, going into supercruise, in Outfitting, in the Shipyard.

Is there no resources planning ahead of events like giving ED away for free and Black Friday week? I would like to think that they didn't come unexpected.

The game has been getting laggy at times lately. It isn't always like this. It could be because of the Epic launcher addition as well as the market changes. If it gets too bad, maybe just try logging out for awhile and come back. Or, just do something that isn't laggy, like maybe prospecting on a planet in an SRV or mining. Good luck

The game, since the night before last, has been nearly unplayable for me. It's just one big LAG and stutter. FPS has tanked from well over 100fps to now, it's all over the place. Goes from low teen fps to maybe 80fps. Just going up the ship elevator is a stuttering mess. Crazy. This game is done, for me.

Stayed away from ED for 2 days. Problem ist still there, worse than before. Interaction with the servers is abysmal. Can't set a carrier jump. After setting the destinatin, carrier management says: no route set.
FDev, you're driving people away!

Update: After minutes the carrier jump sequence has started. The delay is unbearable. That's it for me.
