Game is live... "Play your way"... Bounty hunting? NOP!

Just thought I'd chime in to confirm that you do get rep for handing in bounties. As with most rep transactions, the blue arrow takes time to appear. I had bounties to hand in when I logged in (so no rep arrows on show). After handing each in and un-docking from the station I checked my rep status; blue arrows for each of the three factions following a hand-in.

Someone may have already pointed this out. But I just wanted to confirm it.

I tested this twice in 1.00 while handing in 450.000 cr in republic and 370.000 cr in empire and did nothing else in the stations and it gave no indication of any change (exited station and waited for 10 minutes, jumped to different system and then tried to relogg).
Maybe they have fixed it in 1.01 even if the change logg only said they installed stuff to find the problem as I understood it.

I have been doing NOTHING but claiming and handing in bounties... and not ONCE has a blue arrow appeared.

Did you do a mission? or trade? Or were you looking at the "system status" screen (which also has blue arrows on it, but not for reputation) rather than the reputation screen?

I don't seem to get any rep for bounty hunting. I've waited to see if there are any changes after handing in bounties, but I don't seem to get positive or negative rep. Even the pirate minor factions don't seem to care that I just fried their mates.

I've been mainly going to resource extraction sites to pick up bounties, but at the same time its not my only job as i wander about scanning systems. I've seen the bug where the cops open fire on you(and i am pretty sure i haven't hit them). Otherwise it seems to be a profitable income, thats quite enjoyable.

It would be nice to get positive rep for a system, but just like a murderous littlest hobo i am not in any one system for that long to test this. I imagine zapping a couple of sidewinders and an cobra doesn't make a huge difference to the criminal element in one system. So I wonder how this might get implemented, based on the combat rank of the wanted person zapped, or the size of the bounty(which doesn't seem to be tied to rank).

Hubris claims me!

Was fighting an Asp at a nav beacon around a very bright star. I wheeled round at one point in the battle and saw a lovely fat pentagon silhouette, so I took a square aim and fired.

600Cr Bounty for firing on Federation Security Vessel
"Under attack"

Time to get out of there!

I did exactly what I said in the post. Nothing more and nothing less. Yes, I checked the correct status screen. I've been collating rep info for a while now and made an extensive thread about it, which I might update when I have time.

From my end, there is no doubt that I got rep for handing in bounties and nothing else.

This never happened prior to 1.01.

It's easy to recreate. Get a bounty, log out, log in, dock, hand in, undock - perhaps it requires an instance/game state change - then check your status.

I'm going to do it again and confirm if a state change is required. Bottom line is, most rep changes don't show immediately.

Why would they favor you? You do the job and they pay you for it. For all they care, if the no-name merc does the job, then he's just as good as you.
Also, it doesn't make sense for a faction to see a mercs as one of their own. That goes against the very idea of being a mercenary.

The only problem that needs to be fixed is the fact that they attack you for helping them..

Try to use some logic here. Lets play make believe;

You're a tinpot dictator in a small system/country/make-believe place. You have some bothersome enemies that you want dead. You have a choice between 2 mercenaries:
Merc A) Has run contracts for you for years, always kills the targets, never doubled crossed you.
Merc B) ?
If you hire Merc B you're a fool. Reputation matters for mercenaries, that's why the Kurds currently have an application process for people who want to go fight with them in Iraq (yeah rl, boo). They prefer people with military training, preferably those who have seen active combat duty with a recognised and reputable army. Why? They don't want some no name wannabe screwing up, getting killed and potentially getting them killed. Simple, yes?

Here you go. I tested handing in bounties and gaining rep. I took some screen shots to show.

1) Loaded into the game and got a bounty kill or two.

2) Docked in a Federation station. Here you can see I currently have no rep indicators, as I've done nothing to gain rep since logging in.

3) Now I hand in the bounty for the reward

4) I then un-docked and jumped to another system. I checked the rep screen regularly and there was no indicator upon leaving the station or once I jumped. I kept checking and there was no indication for about a minute or so and then:

Bounty hunting gives you rep. I've maintained since my Reputation State of Play thread that reputation can have a delay before it shows in the status screen. I don't know if it needs a state change or if it just takes a certain amount of time but I suspect it's both. Also, just so you know, when I tried this before I noticed that I also got "related" reputation boosts to the local factions, as the Federation influence was high enough in that system. I imagine I probably got negative rep for killing the targets but, as I only kill criminals, this would have only been with criminal factions - which I'm OK with.

Thanks, this is great news! +1

All these negatives are avoided by operating in an Anarchy system.
^This works.

I was hunting last night for an hour or so at a nav beacon in an Anarchy system. No negative rep ticks, no red arrows, crimes are not logged in anarchy systems it seems, but when I flew to an empire system to cash in 400.000 cr. in bounty vouchers, my rep with the major empire faction changed to friendly.

I think I will just use Anarchy systems and not systems with security anymore to do my bounty hunting: no negative rep ticks, good bounties, and positive rep when you cash in! :D

Pretty sure I got rep with factions I did bounty missions for (kill pirates in anarchy systems).

Not sure about random bounties (i.e. wanted npcs).

rep gain

I can confirm I gain rep from bounty hunting as well. I started playing this game on 12/23, did 7k worth of trading and since then non stop bounty hunting. I have only done 1-3 missions in that span of time and I am currently friendly with Alliance/Federation.

Yes, most of this appears to be resolved now. Which is great.

There is still the issue of loosing rep with the authority faction when destroying wanted ships that share their faction, though.
