This is definitely not being caused by the X56. I pulled out my old Thrustmaster HOTAS and got two more resets; one after I'd spent 20-30 minutes remapping controls and then maybe two minutes in station (I hadn't launched before it reset) and another after playing for about 3 hours (I was on a planet at the time).
As mentioned before, I don't have Odyssey, so I can't comment on what the CPU/GPU load is like for that other than to say that I've heard it's significantly more power-hungry than Horizons. I can repeat that Horizons is not significantly loading either my CPU or GPU. I've been watching both percentage use and power use in MSI Afterburner and both are sub-50% with my settings. I do have a meter like the one you suggested, so I'll plug it in and take a look, but I can't really watch it while the game's running as the power point is under my desk.
(As an aside, I have built my PC to be almost silent. The PSU and GPU fans (two on the GPU) don't spin up until the components are getting warm, and they're nearly silent when running. Intake case fans are stationary under ordinary desktop loads and ramp up speed as the CPU temps go up. I can thoroughly recommend quiet/silent components for your sanity.)
I'm still not convinced that it's the PSU that's at fault here, given that every single one of these resets have taken place while playing ED. I'll spend a few days playing some other more resource-intensive games and see if I get any more resets from them. If not, then I'm blaming it on the game and I'll raise a ticket for official advice).
btw, I do agree that EDO is really hard on the video card and ofc power supply.
my desktop is like turbines starting up, I hate it.
my laptop is like the vacuum cleaner is on, full tilt cooling.
but all that is doing is forcing the issue you already have to surface.
