Game Moments That Still Grab You

The moments that grab me are the Discovery Scan Honks. I'm a simple man.

Also those moments that break a certain pattern that you think you understand. Like when I went to the Coalsack Nebula to land on a planet, and instead of the dark side of the planet lighting up, it stayed pitch black... also the "Moon" went dark in the process even though it was facing the sun. Love the pattern breakers.

I like doing trading and smuggling missions in my Python. This is my method of earning credits so that I can have fun in my other ships and not worry about ship rebuys too much.

When doing these types of missions, I see many different outposts around the bubble. When I come across an outpost that is orbiting an earth like, or a volcanic planet and when the landing pad is facing that planet, I just have to stop and pause for a while to admire the details of the outpost and the details of the planet. It seems almost real.

I know I will never experience being in real space, so this is the closest I will get.

FDev have done an excellent job with the quality of the visuals.

Hearing the opposition flight controller getting snippy and terse with me as their faction is tanking due to the efforts of the Diplomatic Corps.
And then when the system flips to Alliance, we get "Melanie" the Alliance flight controller and she's ALWAYS pleased to see me. I've developed a bit of a crush on her, and I know I'm not the only one.

I still love the feeling of leaving a big Orbis or Coriolis, and of returning later.

Also, when exploring out in the black, I still get a frisson when the Frameshift starts charging.

Practically every thing when you play in VR. I am not kidding. ... If you can swing it go for VR at some point it is totally worth it for Elite.

Basically what h347h said. ED in VR is a stunning experience!

Yesterday, however, FDev topped every experience I had so far when I visited the Thargoid bases. Incredible!
(This was completely new content, though. I don't know, wherther or not it qualifies for this thread).

I like the small touches, and attention to detail that they have put into the game.

Small touches, like the Traffic Controllers greeting you with the first three letters of your Commander's name - Foxtrot Alpha India (Heavy), in my case.

Details like the hydraulics for the Large pads sound like they are working a lot harder than those on the small pads. Additionally, I believe they used to rotate noticeably slower as well, though I think they stealth-patched that out.

Why the hell did it never click for me that flight controllers were using your CMDR callsign when they hailed you?
I noticed that they changed what they said when you flew ships from different manufacturers but "Faulcon DeLacy - SIERRA TANGO ROMEO" means alot more to me now

But my moments;

1. Having my daughter (she is 3 1/2) on my knee as we go mining (she loves mining), exploring, or bounty hunting.

I got home yesterday and my 18 month old daughter was sat in my desk chair waiting for me. She wrestles me for the joystick every so often.

Dropping out of orbital cruise into glide... Still love that and can't wait for atmospheric entries, even if it's to dead worlds with those CO2 atmospheres and rocky surfaces...

The first time I saw a capital ship jump in i was in awe.

Then when I saw two jump in, I was simply gob smacked. Lol

Everything about capital ships is awesome, from the entry and exit, to the music, to their sheer size.
Oh, but their firepower is pants. Lol

Still waiting on an alien hyperdiction.

Finding (well, visiting) alien stuff is pretty exciting too. Crashed ships, alien bases, barnacles, even the accidental brain tree discovery. So many cool things.

Some vistas just do it for me. I'll stop for a moment to admire them if I can.

Fuel scooping...no laughing hear me out. When ye start scooping and yer in the camera mode, what looks like vents open up on the top of the ship. Im not entirely sure of what their actual purpose is, but one likes to think of them as the scoop itself...even though Im fairly sure someone will debunk that belief in no time flat.

To me, thats a novel moment and one Im still intrigued by after 1800 hours spread over multiple accounts on multiple platforms ^

I'm about 3% sure those vents are your heat vents. They open as your temperature rises. :)

Don't quote me though. Lol

The Galaxy map is still a thing of wonder.

These days I also really enjoy watching my Limpets go to work bringing me diamonds. They work so hard and cost hardly anything for the reward they bring me.
