Newcomer / Intro Game playable already ?

Hey there,

i think about starting the game but on the other side, newly released games usually are full of annoying bugs so i wonder, how is it in ED actually ? Would you advice to wait a bit more until the worst bugs are gone or is it good to play now, without annoyances caused by bugs ?

Hi Markus,

From my experience (about 15 hours game time) I think the game is pretty good at the moment and perfectly playable. I have had 2 client crashes and 1 docking blip and that is it. I have been really enjoying my time in the game so far.

This game was in playable (yet unrefined) shape even four months ago. I have over 200 hours and still having a blast. I'd say you jump in. :D

Some posters will say the game is "broken", particularly with respect to trading.
I've been playing almost every night for a couple of hours since gamma (Nov 22).
I disagree with them for the most part although I haven't traded much since release.
Pilots are making money trading by watching the markets.
I'm making money exploring and bounty hunting.
Others are mining or working their way up in factions to get better missions.
There are 400 billion star systems to get to. The populated systems are a very small fraction of that. But look at the first number. Even 1% is 4 billion!
I think the "broken" sayers are more disappointed with the difference in expectation and delivery.
I hope you didn't come into the game expecting everything in the trailer! It's there (or will be easier to do in a future release), but not at that pace.

Flying isn't bad once you get used to the controls. Navigating the UI is a pain and figuring out all the controls... Uph!

Playable? Marvelous job with mechanics, graphics look nice, very few bug type issues that'll mess your day up...

It's just rough getting started and the tutorials I didn't find all that helpful - nor most youtube videos being as they show someone who knows what they are doing but not what buttons they are hitting, etc to get things done.

The game works fine, there are still things 'missing', like 'wings' (groups) but most of the problems people are having stem from lack of a manual or just having bought Elite thinking it was World of Spaceship

Elite isn't a 'game' in many ways. Anyway, check these:

if none of that makes any sense, save yourself 40 quid

Hi Eleazaros, have you tried the ones I just linked? I found them to be more detailed and targeted at people who aren't familiar with the game and buttons to press etc

Ah OP, one last thing: a lot of people talk about docking like it was actually difficult. It's difficult only if you don't spend 10-20 minutes to familiarize yourself with your ship controls

So i bought this game anyway. So can i trade stuff and do missions like deliver this and that like in ETS2 (Eurotruck). Can i mine asteroids and sell them? Can i explore new worlds, mine fuel myself and explore things? If yes then i'm golden.

In the last couple of months and well more hours playing than I care to admit to on the internet I've had no crashes to desktop. I've had maybe 10 "stuck in hyperspace" and had to alt-tab out, and a fair few bugs seen and reported. Most of which have been killed by successive patches in short order. Yeah its playable. Don't expect a linear game though, its a steep learning curve, and that curve curves right round and smashes you in the back of the head sometimes.

You don't mine fuel, you either buy it or scoop it from the nearest star.

I wonder why they took out the 'hours played stat' you used to be able to see from the start page. Probably so I won't realize how I'm wasting my life

You are golden

I would say it's not broken, but there are few glitches... ie. if you lagout during trade mission completion, it's possible that the items disappear, and you get no money at all from the transaction. (happened to me).

Overall game has a solid base and can only get better.

Hm, Im an Elite fan(boi:D) for 30 years now. I'd say, come aboard.

I enjoy it from Premium Beta onwards, and it is(was) the best Gaming experience for me since 'Skyrim'.

Its not a modern 20hours game, its more of a Gaming experience. And mechanics behind it, seems to be very complex (see the Lugh Experiment).
You wil come across some glitches, but not very gamestopping bugs.

Dont get intimidated by the "grind" threads. This game has none. IF you know what to do, you can have a blast in the Sidey(startership) for a Long time.

Feel free to ASK around and you get helped.
