Game running at double (at least) speed, occasionally?

Have any of you seen this? It's only happened to me two or three times - happened just now - everything about the game will run in "turbo" mode. I just launched, jumped through five or so systems and re-docked, probably took about a minute for the whole thing. It's very weird.

I can't reproduce the behavior - no idea what triggers it, which is just as well, since it'd be fantastically exploitable for trading.

Do you have FPS cap on? Maybe the game tries to "catch up" on the lost frames?

Is that Frame Rate Limit? No, that's "Off". This is OS X, btw. Very important to note that I've only had this happen maybe three times ever, in hundreds of hours of play. It's just awfully weird!

I'm on OS X too (Yosemite, late 2013 iMac), but haven't run into this issue yet. Weird indeed

I have never experienced any kind of 'turbo' (or slow) mode since alpha.

You jumped through 5 systems in a minute?

Not sure what you are suggesting is happening - perhaps you should post a video so we can see?

I'm not sure how I would record a video, but even so - I can't reproduce it at will, unfortunately!

What I'm suggesting has happened a few times is that the game appears to be running much too fast, and continues to do so until one docks. So: I'm suggesting that I launch, start the jump, the FSD charges super-quickly and the time counts down in about a second. When I pop out next to a star the symptoms continue. If I fly towards a station rather than jump, it takes almost no time to get there and the stars look a bit "glitchy" during, as if some timing thing is messed up.

When I dock it goes back to normal speed and I can't make the issue happen again.

So. That's all. Everything runs way too fast. :)

Never seen (or heard of this) in ED.

Are you sure your mind isn't just running a little more slowly sometimes? ;)

It happened to me also.
Or I think it's the same thing. Sometimes (I'm talking about the same trip between two systems), the hyperdrive takes 3 seconds, sometimes 15 seconds. To go from the same A to the same B...

I'm pretty confident about this one. ;)

It's really not subtle. Absolutely breakneck speed. Wish I could reproduce it. I wonder if it's some sort of catching up with the server time thing.

Thats to do with how long it takes to put you in an instance at the journey's end. That is not a bug (everyone experiences this to some degree and it is expected behaviour).

What gcard are you using btw?

We've seen a lot of slowdown and stuttering potentially attributed to the netcode, since it happens regardless of PC spec, but seeing the reverse is something new to me. Plausible, certainly, but odd. Try get a video if you can.

Here's the entire spec:

Obviously I can't prove that I'm not wrong, but my job involves writing and testing software, so I'd like to think I have a pretty decent grasp of when things get weird. :)

I can try to figure out how to record video, but it could be weeks before I see it happen again, if it ever even does.

That said, if it were replicable, well... That'd be very interesting.

People say that nVidia's Shadowplay is pretty good for that.

OK, thank you! I'll take a look at that. I just read that there's built-in functionality within QuickTime player that comes with the O/S, but I'll be interested to see if it handles switching desktops.

You may want to cap the limit. When I used to run with FPS limit off the game would be super fast in SC and fighting an interdiction was almost impossible. Now that I cap it to the monitor's framerate (60) and disable V-sync (technically not needed since you're going the monitor's native framerate) The game is nice and fluid with the only stuttering happening because of network issues not graphics.

Still thought this may not be your issue jumping into 5 system and docking in a minute? that's insane I don't understand how that happens nor how you play that way.
