Game save and saves discussion thread.

Say I downloaded and played a ED, and got a Hauler on computer A. Then I downloaded it on computer B and logged in to play.

Would my original save be available on computer B? Or does it only work for one computer?

More specifically: are saves kept on a server or on individual computers?

Hold your hands up if you feel the need for multi-saves meeeeeeeeee do

Hi EDs, I'm sure this wont be the first time or the last time this subject has raised its head. BUT, I for one would at least like the option to save game.
BEFORE I leave the docking station.
BEFORE I buy that upgrade.
BEFORE I go to that new area in space.
BEFORE I take on that "mission"
BEFORE etc, etc ,etc, etc.
YEP, ya get a free new ship if you die, but hell "INSURANCE COVER" in a game. isn't the real life insurance bad enough without having it in game as well. WHATS NEXT, the sims mode, having to feed, wash n dress our avatars. This game could be BIG, but I ask the programmer's one question.
Remember why ELITE '84' was and still is to be fondly remembered as the "BEST GAME EVER". Simple, the chemistry works between a bit time building credits. to FUN and still making credits, to GLORY and still making credits. By all means give the game challenges, but DONT, drowned the game in REAL LIFE ISSUES. This game has already took a HIT, by NOT been off-line. This alone stops the development of MODS. I refer to games like Total War Games, look at the mods for that and how even the older TW games are still been played just to run amazing MODS on. The programmer's say "We intend to make this game future proof, and having this off line can't allow us to do this". Well, I'm sure you know best...... Just give us mere mortals the option to make mistakes and have the power to go back and correct them. GOD knows its hard enough to handle in the real world. I thank you.....

While I'm hoping for 3 Cmdr slots, you may have a misunderstanding in your thought process about save slots. You cannot roll-back to a previous save, so other than "the game may crash and cause unexpected behaviors" why are you performing so many saves?

FD really needs to change some of the language they use, such as "pause menu" and "save and exit" as they do not do what common usage implies.

Your very right SIR, I was under the impression this game was able to be saved like any other normal PC Game. And, the normal thing is to delete or overwrite your older saved game slots as you progress. But, I guess its a case of going to work come home have a chill playing on a game to have fun. Or do a few thousand hours "Groundhog Days" trading, then have fun.... lol. Now where did I put that "Freelancer" cd. Only joking.. I get the idea friend.... PS Your right about the wordings as well.

No, live and hopefully learn by your mistakes ...

.. however 3 commander slots as alluded to during KS and beyond ....

:D

** This please FDev ** My kids want to play and they are NOT crashing my Viper into anything and ruining my faction reputation!!

It would be nice to have a 'simulator' where you could try out different loadouts against NPCs in a safe area without risking your ship by doing something stupid.

Multiple saves would be very useful because…

I had a friend round and over a few beers, we had some fun with some flight Sims we both enjoy online but he asked to have a piloting session with my Lakon 6 in a pristine metal rich planetary ring (I was quick to say “yeah but no- because”).

I had been spending a fair amount of time in this area filled with spinning lumps of metal enriched rock. Through many hours of practice, I know how to avoid being smashed to bits but I knew that if I let my friend take control that at some point he was going to end up wrecking my ship and scattering all my valuable ore to the virtual vacuum.

As it stands with only one save and with the game being so unforgiving of pilot errors, the last thing anyone wants is to let a new player loose on their save, especially if they have a hold filled with expensive goodies.

I thought it was a planned feature that people could have more than 1 commander, my sons both want to play but I'm not buying the game another twice. Games developers are getting worse and worse, Used to be you bought a game and your kids could also play it but not any more its a joke they all just want more and more money out of you.

Multiple character slots would be nice for all sorts of reasons. But until we get some word from FD about whether that's been ruled out or will appear in the future, there are always the tutorials for giving friends a hands-on demo. They're offline, and don't affect your save status.
