Game suddenly saying that I need to redeem Elite Dangerous to continue?

Anyone else run into this issue? Today I opened the launcher, like I always do, from Steam and it takes forever to load. Instead of finally opening the game, the launcher shows me a login button (which I haven't had in I dunno how long; it's always just logged in). I went ahead and logged in, and it showed me a "Please purchase/redeem Elite Dangerous to continue" big red box. Now I'm dead in the water.

Kinda sucks, because I had missions about to expire and just enough time to do that. Sadness :(

So I managed to get connected by trying a VPN, but once in the game it was saying Frontier's servers couldn't be contacted. Guess there's some issue going on right now. Ah well, at least my account wasn't lost! Sucks about the missions, though. Hopefully the servers come back up soon.

You might have two separate problems there. The server error you have now could well be because you've used a VPN.

As for your original problem, this might help:

When I login I see "Please purchase / redeem Elite Dangerous to continue" :: Frontier Customer Support

A message stating
support.frontier.co.uk

I'd give that fix a go without using the VPN and see how it goes.

Aha! You're a life saver! Hopped off VPN and gave it another go, and it worked. Thanks a bunch :)

I just got the game on steam after playing for years on xbox and this same thing drove me up the wall. Cant remember what fixed it. First I had to link my steam account and my frontier account, and ran into a bunch of problems with that. But I think in the end it was either that I was trying to play "horizons" and not the base game, or steam had only installed horizons and not the base game. Either way I was thinking at the time, "this is why elite dangerous isnt super popular. It's not on the microsoft store, it's not on the xbox for windows store, and if you get it on steam you cant just play it right away. On console the process is way simpler.
