The game is more challenging, but not impossible to play.
AI combat is harder and I've lost more ships in the last 100 hours than in the previous 600, but it's a challenge I'm adapting to.
Maybe it's because I played Eve Online for several years and the "don't fly what you can't afford to lose" mantra was drummed into my skull.
Park your expensive ship and experiment. When my FAS blew up, I switched to a Cobra and then an Asp. With less at stake in combat encounters, I learned how to survive better. Now I'm no longer afraid to risk my FAS.
Some of it is quite simple. Before, in my FAS, I'd take on an anaconda that was in a wing with other ships. Now I just run away. If it's solo, I'll give it a shot but am always prepared to run. I'm paying more attention to pip management. Experimenting more with FA off.
I'm also spending more time in my Asp, grinding Empire rank so I can get a clipper. The Engineers update seems to make it easier to run missions. Or maybe I was doing it wrong. Either way, it's a plus as far as I'm concerned and I'm making more money than before. That helps make up for the lost ships.
As for problems with the Engineers scavenger hunts and no way to store items, I'm simply ignoring the whole thing while the devs tweak it. It's obviously not finished.
