Horizons Game Unplayable since Engineers update

Played this game off and on for a couple of months now I have earned a Python class A equip and happily trading and rep slowly. However, since the engineers update have been interdicted by Masters grade (I'm competent) every time and destroyed with in the time it takes me to set the power distributor and look out the window. At a cost of 8 mill to replace my ship with only enough time to earn trading about 200,000 this game is now un playable for the quite solo player. NOTE The admirals in charge of this game refunded my ship cost once but I lost my cargo of rare goods which is expensive….!

I'm with you on this one ....

I scavenge on planets for a living, and I can be out on a remote planet in the middle of nowhere and BINGO .... 3 x Dangerous NPC's find me and toast me before I can lift off. It sucks big time. It's happening far too often. Luckily I'm only using a non-combat FAS so the insurance isn't crippling. But its really putting me off going to a bigger ship.

I'm no fighter pilot but the 80 trading hours I've put into the game since 2.1 hit assures me that it is indeed playable. It is still completely possible to simply boost away from interdictions. Have you A-rated your shield? You should try mines, they are stupidly effective. Submit and high-wake. Hmm.

Unplayable is a ridiculous amount of hyperbole.

Equip mines (they work now! Huzzah!).
On interdiction, immediately put all pips to shields, drop a round of mines, boost and then select a star to high-wake to; low-waking will simply have the NPC follow you and interdict you all over again.

I feel your pain Buddy!! I busted my hump for the last 6 months + to save up for a shiny new Python...been pouring money into improving it (as lets face it..the upgrades are crippling for normal players) and like you over the last few weeks have suffered crippling kills from pirates or in some case pirates who knackered me, then system authorities (after helping out) turning on me...I'm really, really getting sick of this..

About 7 days ago I had about 24 million...today (with last interdiction/slaughter of me and 19t of rares I'd been building up all day due to slow spawn rates), I'm now down to 8 million...Ive got enough cost for 1 rebuild and then I'm gonna be back to where I was 5 months ago!

Feeling so disgusted and getting really sick of what was a totally enjoyable game until this sodding patch!

I totally agree with you. I'm now loosing all my hard earned money by playing. I'm back from a break of playing this game and now the sector where I was has turned hostile to me and I don't remember what I did to my FDL jump range to get it so low and cannot get out of where I am now. I will need to reconfigure my ship just to be able to return somewhere safe but I cannot make a penny here so I will need to downgrade everything or change allegence?

What the hell is this "high wake" I keep reading about. Excuse my ignorance, I just haven't played for so long i feel I am missing something

"High Wake" is jumping to another system. "Low Wake" is going from normal flight within the system into super cruise.

Ahhhh. Ok. I get it now. I thank you sir.

I already use both techniques depending (low wake if taking a lot of damage and I need to get out of there hell fast, high if I don't care and just want to get to next jump)

Why is it always a Python? The majority of people complaining about getting vaporized in seconds is from a python. Did they screw up the hitboxes when they fixed the invulnerable engines and make the fuel tank hitbox the entire size of the ship?

a non-combat FAS

I'm glad to see I'm not the only insane person in the game.

There have been a number of threads and also a few videos giving tips out for surviving interdictions.

1. Fly in SC with 4 pips in SYS
2. If you are finding interdiction flight off challenging immediately Submit.
3. Boost and turn to pass the interdictor in opposite directions.
4. ensure you have another system selected and engage jump as soon as cool down.
5. Boost but keep 4 pips in SYS
6. Jump to another system and back again, the NPC Pirate event will have been cancelled.

CMDRs have also shown the effectiveness of fitting mines rather than forward facing weapons to assist in escape.

you may want to check why you are getting attacked by System Security - you wanted? Or have you pledged to a faction and are trading in another factions area? If wanted - pay off bounty or avoid area? If pledged then drop it as this will increase hostile NPC events.

Python even with A rated thrusters turns like a pig and unless you are geared for combat and a lot of shield damage the best thing you can do is High wake.

Trust this helps?

You're welcome. To explain where the terms came from -- You will notice when another ship jumps away it will leave a wake behind. These can be seen sometimes in your contacts tab. You can tell if they (human or NPC) jumped into Super Cruise or to another system by seeing what kind of wake it is (low or high).

You haven't considered flying a ship that is more suited to your budget?

The game is more challenging, but not impossible to play.

AI combat is harder and I've lost more ships in the last 100 hours than in the previous 600, but it's a challenge I'm adapting to.

Maybe it's because I played Eve Online for several years and the "don't fly what you can't afford to lose" mantra was drummed into my skull.

Park your expensive ship and experiment. When my FAS blew up, I switched to a Cobra and then an Asp. With less at stake in combat encounters, I learned how to survive better. Now I'm no longer afraid to risk my FAS.

Some of it is quite simple. Before, in my FAS, I'd take on an anaconda that was in a wing with other ships. Now I just run away. If it's solo, I'll give it a shot but am always prepared to run. I'm paying more attention to pip management. Experimenting more with FA off.

I'm also spending more time in my Asp, grinding Empire rank so I can get a clipper. The Engineers update seems to make it easier to run missions. Or maybe I was doing it wrong. Either way, it's a plus as far as I'm concerned and I'm making more money than before. That helps make up for the lost ships.

As for problems with the Engineers scavenger hunts and no way to store items, I'm simply ignoring the whole thing while the devs tweak it. It's obviously not finished.

***********UPDATE*************
after a few successful CG's I'm at least above what I was before the game started handing me Violent NPC lemons ;) hehe. However anyone like me, I would strongly advise looking into Mine Launchers...there are numerous threads on here about this tactic..and the NPC's will chase right after you to get the optimum firing position...as you flee..just seed that space with glorious mines and the dumb AI will plow straight into them again and again (even if you don't finish them off it buys time to charge the drives and flee (high or low jump))...I only had one interdiction so far (as swapped into smaller asp to recoup some of the money lost) and it did indeed work..as the NPC stopped firing when it kept plowing into the mines....so it seems to be a very good and easy way of dealing with the pinicious AI pirates (have friends who also have tried this and got very excited as took down the npcs for a large wadge of credit...and they are no combat gods...more like mosquitos).
