Game wasn't going to be happy until I made the slog to Hutton Orbital...

I accepted a "Kill the Pirate" mission in the Alpha Centauri system. The game would not tell me WHERE in the system the pirate was until I scanned the NAV beacon and of course, when I scanned the NAV beacon I found out the pirate was waaay out at Proxima Centauri. In my Eagle the Beagle I made it all the way to Proxima on only 3/4 tank of fuel by shutting down everything but Thrusters, Life Support and the FSD module. The game STILL ran me out of time about 5 minutes from Proxima. Since I had already made the incredible slog all the way out there I flew around the destination star scanning ships for about ten minutes anyway looking for the pirate and when I was on my last breath of fuel turned toward Hutton Orbital to refuel and was immediately notified that I "failed" the mission.

What a warm, steaming puddle of squirty-doody.

Well, I am sure as shinola not going to haul these mugs 150 LY to profit on them, I sold them at Crook Hub for a 320 credit loss. Screw it, I won't be doing that again. Great job generating zero-fun gameplay, FDev! About as much fun as a prostate-exam administered by a pro-wrestler.

My feiend took a passenger mission there by accident. Debating about whether to abandon or do the long supercruise, he decided to do it. Wish I had realised he was in his Orca not his Dolphin!
Actually it did not seem to be as long, as the lave radio podcast when the guys did the trip live. He took the presence of only an outpost, a lot better than I though he would! He is going to go again if a mission comes up, and take the screenshots .... for the mug.

Hahahahahahahaha... [yesnod]

Oh, I'm sorry My friend... We were so sure that we were going to miss these threads when delivery distances were added in the last release... Thank you for restoring a long tradition. Oh, I'm going to have to clean up now...

Did you pick up your Hutton Mug while you were out there?

This needs fixing, it really does. It';s not just Huton that's the problem, though of course Hutton is the worst. I made a thread about it a week or two ago after I got sent 900kylies and barely had time to kill the enemy.

Assassinations should have their spawns no more than 2000ls from the entry point OR have the time AND reward increased appropriately. It happened to me again last night, sent 600kylies for an assassination for 750kcr. Wasn't happy.

I now make it a rule to check the system before taking assassination missions, if it's got planetary bodies over 10,000ls from the main star, I decline the mission, though this does not always work as sometime you have to meet a contact that sends you to another system, I do check again, using same rules as above, if over 10,000ls I'll abandon the mission, not worth my time.

I can't bring myself to do this, I'm really efficient at assassinations now, I can stack at least 5 and get them all done in time, as long as I don't get sent to the outer planets, but stacking 5 is hard enough without board hopping, if I was picky about what system I took a mission to, it would slow me down a lot. To be fair and as I said in my other thread on this, it is quite rare, but when it happens it screws everything up.

By the way, contact always sends you back to the system you came from (how ridiculous is that), so your method will still work for those.

True, if the system you come from doesn't have planetary bodies ludicrous light seconds away, and yes, it is ridiculous that it sends you back.

Goodafternoon, am I speaking to the Pirate?
Uhm ... yeah
Good, how are you doing Sir?
Fine ... I guess.
Excellent to hear. I am calling because I have just accepted a bounty mission to kill you.
You what?
I will be in the Alpha Centauri system between 1 PM and 6 pm, and it would be smashing if you could be available during these hours.
Are you completely out of your ... Alpha Centauri eh? Oh yeah! Sure! I can be available during those hours.
Fantastic! See you this afternoon.
Don't bet on it!
Excuse me?
Nothing, have a nice day!
You too Sir!

Hey Zig, not sure what you're getting at here, the mission givers either know where the target is supposed to be (via intelligence, I guess?) or know someone else who knows (informant). Nothing immersion breaking there. After that it's 100% up to the game mechanic which body gets the spawn, and to allow it to be Hutton without a change to reward, while not unrealistic on a certain level, is not in line with the expressed desire (and recent changes to ensure this is the case in OTHER mission types) of FD that missions should reward based on time taken to perform.

I think the moral of the story is to not take jobs in Alpha Centauri.

Dude c'mon I'm eating my breakfast...... chocolate cheerios..... thanks

That's not a moral, or any kind of solution to the problem.

Yes it is. There is no problem apart from the one you make for yourself. Going to Hutton Orbital for a mission is purely optional. Just don't go there or choose that mission. Simple. I haven't been there for purely the reason it takes 1.5 hours to get there. I may do one day, but not anytime soon. There are plenty of other places I can go to instead which are much closer.

I made the trip once...

<starts twitching>

.....excuse me for a second....

<"I can't stop them, I know they can't hear you, only I can hear you">

.......but seriously, do it, look at me I'm fine.....
