Game will not run

I downloaded the new upgrade but it would not run. I got a message sayingVCRuntime140.dll was not found and reinstalling the game may fix this problem. It didn't. Anyone else experiencing this problem and anyone have a fix?

MSVCP140.dll Is my issue and I have gone to Options and hit the Validate tab, a number of times.

Let's hope that there is some kind of patch coming, because right now, I am not going to the web and try to download some random MSCVP140 link etc..

Those types of issues can be infuriating. I hope you guys get it fixed soon. I'd definitely check the support forums.

I have tried the basics of what they suggest, but I am not that cleaver with computers. Suggesting I go into the game files etc., goes way above my head.

To be blunt: I pay for a game to play, the game maker has not sent me everything I need to play said game. They need to sort it.

Suggestions like; get under the bonnet myself and fix it, or go to a random parts dealer for the part I need. Is not very helpful.

As a ps4 user (check the ps4 bug report forum!) I know how you feel. Hope it gets sorted soon as there seems to be a lot of people who, one way or another, share your frustration here.

Same issue here.
Did a complete uninstall and reinstall without success, like OP.
Not running ED through steam, either.

Bring in the patch, Frontier.
Thanks.

Yet you come here and ask for help?

Nope:

I read the advice already given to others and tried to fix it myself by using the Option menu and validate tab; a number of times. Logged off and switched off my P.C. etc., but that did not work.

I have since mentioned that I 'also' have the same issue.

It's really not difficult at all, if you managed to install Elite you can do this as well. And if you do run into problems, there is a lot of helpful people on this forum.

Follow the link that ibmalone provided, download it, install it.

Both these .DLL files are part of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual studio aren't they? Thought that error had gone away with Win10 since it was common on Win 7.

I'd suggest a reinstall of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package from here or Microsoft themselves...

There is a link in the thread Rob above mentioned, that I may try later; when I next use my game laptop. That said; the link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145
Has no mention of MSVCP140.dll in it, so I don't know if it is even relevant to my own issue.

Plus my patiences with such things; is at a very low ebb and so it not working; once again, is going to have me throwing teddies etc..

Just use the fix that is mentioned above.

I'll let you know how I get on after my PC will have finally decided to validate the game files.... preparing for update....???
Part of me wished I went straight for the 64bit whatever that is.

On this note, anyone care to explain what is that missing file exactly, and what does it do ?
Or should I just chalk it off as: "same reason why grunge kids reaped holes in their pants back in the 90's" ?

The problem is unlikely to be the complexity, but the risk (if you're not sure you know what you're doing) of downloading arbitrary software from the internet and giving it system privileges.

Sure, in this case, you can get the offending dll from a place that calls itself Microsoft - but on the other hand, there was an article in the paper just today about people claiming to be from Microsoft calling unsuspecting people on the phone and trying to sell them expensive maintenance software they don't need - or, failing that, getting access to their PC.

You (or I) may know how to sift out the dangerous sites, but downloading a dll from the internet is not something I would recommend to e.g. my mother.

It's an easy enough point to miss - FD developers, QA and probably also most beta testers are likely to have the 2015 or later MS VC++ dlls already on their computer, from any of a dozen other downloads or simply their daily work, so the (apparently) incorrect dll in the game package can easily fall through the crack. If it turns out to be that problem, it's also easily fixable - but QA mills usually grind slowly.

Thanks, will try tomorrow.

i find this sometimes when windows 10 has done a feature update. it deletes all the installed directx and visual c++ installed and installs the latest versions only that come with win 10. because ms assumes those will have all the functions and they never bother to think that MAYBE all those old packages are installed for a reason, like perhaps you installed something that NEEDS them and wont work on their super spiffy most modern but slimmed down version with half the functions missing.

usually if you look in the game folders you will find both directx installers and vcredist installers - and usually running those installers (which steam does on first run of any new game install normally anyways) will fix the problem. otherwise you need to go looking for links on microsoft sites for the developers kit and what not to install things that windows 10 feature update should really not have removed.

sweaing at microsoft is optional but highly recommended.

other things that might sometimes help is setting the executable of the game (not the launcher) to the correct compatibility but since elite works for me on windows 10 without it i have no idea what compat version of windows to select.

but these are all standard troubleshooting things. if one of them works (particularly finding the installers for direct 9 thru 11 and the vcredist installers for years 2008-2012 then might be an idea to copy those folders someplace safe for when the next win 10 update removes them all for no reason again.

good luck and hope something there helps.
