GameGlass

An app for a tablet or phone etc. So basically you have a panel that allows you to control items of your ship on a tablet next to you such as landing gear super cruise etc.

I don't understand what it is. Is it just me or does it not explain itself simply and clearly, even on the about page?

It says this right at the top of the screen.

Simply install our ultra-low latency Host application.

Looks like it has potential. With the subscription you can put it on multiple devices with different "shards" as they call them. App function screens basically. Thinking 3 cheap android tablets with navigation, ship systems and ship controls on each screen? Might be fun to build a simpit around. Who knows if they'll go that far with the ED pack but worth keeping an eye on.

Xbox has a similar mobile phone/tablet app, Xbox Smart-glass, that I used for a few years playing E-D...before we had keyboards and stuff on that platform. It worked fine doing basic keyboard functions in E-D that were allowed on the Xbox at that time, mainly text input of course.

This seems a bit more applied...but doesn't do anything I can't realistically do on my second monitor or via Voice Attack...

Your second monitor is a touch screen?

And wait, you can talk to GG?

If no to both, then I guess it's actually TOTALLY DIFFERENT?

Dude for real, for real. It's about as simple, clean, and clear as you can't get. I couldn't ask for more clarity LOL.

I tried gameglass...liked it..besides cluttering my desk with a tablet. It has a place for sure but I simply found the it merely physicalised the voice commands I already used via Voice Attack and also mirrored commands and functions already assigned to my HOTAS.

It's perfect for M/KB fliers...but I'm not one of those ;)

Im liking it a lot. HOTAS user, so some of the functionality is easier via the stick or throttle, it also provides a few bits of data that are less visible otherwise.

For example, what your prospector finds without targeting it, and search prices from EDDB. Also, fix the charge level of seismic charges with single button.

Although I'm mostly mining at the moment, I can see similar benefits when I next explore.

Visually it looks really nice, matches the ED hud nicely and sets out data clearly.

Possibly a bit pricey but it's a niche thing so i'm okay with that.

LOL I doubt it, but now is the best time upgrade my bro!!

I thought so 😞

I made a personal choice for not upgrading my self built PC. The last game I bought for it was Skyrim and the final time it was upgraded was around 2010/11. I gave up, furious at the issues I kept on having.

It ran Crysis pretty well...

Perhaps one day I’ll be enticed back....

After a couple of nasty collisions, the US Navy has decided that touchscreens are a thoroughly bad idea and want to go back to physical controls:

For my part, I can't help thinking that using a tablet or phone touchscreen in VR would be a rather hit-or-miss affair. Miss, mostly.

I recently wanted to try around with GameGlass, but since it didn't come with options for keybinding customization and many of my secondary bindings are already in use, I didn't use it.
BUT that will change soon. The GG glass devs announced an update that includes keybind customizations, and as soon as it hits, I'll give it a try.
I love how GG displays feeds, like showing me how much planets are worth and selling stations for mined goods.

Seriously, awesome stuff.

isn't that cheating or does this fall into the 'skill based mechanics that can be trivially automated via external macros' category like, e.g., pips?
This was raised in the Lave Radio chat with the gg devs, and their view was unsurprisingly, that it is the latter. I dont think it offers much advantage, it's just a smidge more convenient.
