Gameinformer Article on LucasArts

Was browsing the SW:TOR forums and came across this excellent article in GameInformer :-http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2014/02/12/fall-of-the-empire-how-inner-turmoil-brought-down-a-legendary-studio.aspx

A little off topic maybe for an ED forum as it discusses LucasArts perhaps but I thought it gave a pretty good insight into the troubles a company can hit in game design and project management.

And back on topic, these problems, troubles, and exercises in futility in some cases, do have a bearing and relevance in terms of E: D and SC, and the problems and hurdles that FD and RSI may have encountered/be encountering in designing their respective titles.

A long but excellent read, and would like to hear some my fellow commanders opinions on the article itself and the issues it discusses.

I've moved this into games general, and left a re-direct for a few days so people can link to it. :)

Seems a bit unfortunate to lose in-house talent. Getting curve-balls from senior managers is a fear of many people in many different industries. But from that article, Lucas doesn't sound like an effective leader in the later years.

*Shudder*

Thanks for the link, I didn't even know that lucasarts has been bought. I guess it's the end of Star Wars. OMG a movie every 2 years.

The resurgence of indie game development through kickstarter and smaller budgets is really a blessing.

On October 30, 2012, Disney announced it purchased Lucasfilm and LucasArts. Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of Disney, added to the excitement when he revealed that Disney was, “planning to release Star Wars: Episode VII – the first feature film under the ‘Disney-Lucasfilm’ brand. That will be followed by Episodes VIII and IX – and our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years.”
