Hello!
First of all I would like to say. THIS IS NOT a thread to bash the game. I love Elite Dangerous and I have been playing nothing but this game since it came out! I just want to detail some areas that I really really think need to be addressed. This game is amazing, but nothing is without fault!
1. Fuel Scooping HUD's are different on certain ships.
Issue: Eagle Fuel Scooping HUD is actually just pasted right over top of the middle of your HUD. While the Viper and other ships the Fuel Scooping HUD is conveniently tucked above your field of view and out of the way.
- This one makes me scratch my head. The Fuel Scooping HUD, in my opinion, on the viper, is what all of them should look like.
- Eagle's variation is must larger and plastered across your screen. When I jumped into a Viper is was directly after a Maintenance and I thought the Fuel Scooping HUD was updated!
- Vipers is less intrusive of your field of view while still maintaining a nice place for ease of view. Its an important function, but one you cannot turn off or make it go away until you move away from a star or sell the module.
- Eagle's sticks out and almost says "Hey! Look! Im important! Please stare at me until you are away from the star!"
Solution: I feel as though all HUDs should look like the Vipers, because it does not obstruct your view and because of its location, it looks more believable that its apart of your HUD in the ship.
2. NPC's the REAL Jerks of the Galaxy!
Issue: You are minding your own business and flying safely into the Docking Port (For the purposes of this thats what we are calling it because I dont knowwhat the Plasma Window that you enter from outside space, or exit to leave is called) when suddenly a NPC comes flying top speed down the side you are flying into! He rams the edge of your ship sending you flying into the Docking Ports side. Your stuck and the station alerts you that you have stopped. With much effort you finally scramble to get out of the port, only to realize that you now have fines to pay...
- NPCs frequently disobey the Green/Red markers and "flight" paths into and out of the stations. Green markers for "Use this side" and a Red to indicate which side you SHOULDNT fly down seem to not matter. Of course this doesnt always happen but I have seen it from other NPCs and have had it happen to me.
- High Trafficked Starports seem to almost narrowly miss being jammed and congested at the Docking Port entrance.
- To me it would make perfect sense to make the NPCs follow a strict flight pattern into and out of the starports, especially in areas that see tons of NPCs flying in and out of them.
- Dont get me wrong, players scare me too but I have yet to meet one that is an ass enough to just ram you full force while attempting to get into a station.
- Shoot me all you want to, but please do not ram me so I get stuck in the models of the side of the station which could get my ship blow up... NPCs do this far more often than what I would like to think.
Proposed Solution: Give priorities to NPCs with big ships like the Python, or Lakon Type 9 that can enter. Have them stop or circle around the station until its their turn. If its all smaller ships, have them line up and use only appropriate side of the Docking Bay Entrance. Either that, or loosen the slack on penalties and fines for not meeting "Docking Protocol" to players.
3. Nav Beacons- Histarium's 2 step guide to becoming the richest person in the galaxy tomorrow!
Issue: Go to a Nav Beacon, even if its just a starter sidewinder, spend 35 minutes here and kill anything that says "Wanted" and you gain to net anywhere from 9k to 45k! With that many credits just pouring out of Nav Beacons and Bounty Hunting, why would you ever need to ACTUALLY hunt bounties? For the rest of this section lets call it what Elite Dangerous makes it, Bounty Killing.
- Bounty Killing in Nav Beacon areas, especially with a Warrant Scanner and Anarchy system see the easiest and most profitable thing any one player can do for himself.
- Comparison (Subject to my gameplay experiences ONLY your experience may differ!) : Trading/courier missions after 35 minutes- Depending on the system and which ones you picked up, you could see anywhere from 2k to 15k. Exploring after 35 minutes- 1x Basic Discovery Scanner + 1x Ship of any kind + a dozen or so unexplored systems, perferably with more than one star and more than 1 planet will get you something like 5k to 20k in a short period of time, although it can get boring and frustrating at times when you think a dot could be another star in that system, but turns out to be a distant one. Mining after 35 minutes= Hey! Im not done yet! Can you wait another hour? Seriously, mining probably takes the most time and the most effort out of anything I have tried to do in Elite Dangerous. took me a couple of hours and I gained about 9k... hardly worth doing. Those are the 3 basic ideas of things you expect to do. Of course there is more but they boil down to those basic things: Bounty Killing, Trading/courier Missions, Mining, Exploring.
- As I have outlined, Nav beacons are by far the most profitable, early game and late game for ANY player. Sure you can take missions but if you want to make the most of your time, head to a nav beacon.
- This emphasis on bounties and nav beacons has crippled the options of other parts of the game. I actually feel discouraged to mining because of how long it takes to make anything at it. That and the lack of "Mining specific" missions.
Solution #1: Do away with Nav Beacons entirely and put more emphasis on USS locations. (Or Unidentified Signal Sources). This could make the game world seem more alive and make more sense if done properly than just throwing randomly generated, highly wanted NPC targets at a pre-defined location. Have the same kind of happenings with Unidentified Signal Sources. Bounty Hunters interdicting and then you can jump in to help out or claim the bounty. In turn, you could place more pirates and miners in asteroid belts/planetary rings. Miners go to mine, pirates attack, you defend and get their bounties. In turn, you could even go as far as adding more "kill" missions. Where you get a mission to protect miners in a Extraction system or one with a lot of asteroid belts/planetary rings. This would spawn pirates and you get their bounties + the reward for protecting the miners and possible faction standings for the faction/ corporation they represent.
Solution #2: Again instead of Nav Beacons, have dynamically generated areas that go away over time. Maybe jumping into a USS you find a group of pirate ships attacking a hauler. You start to help and upon doing so, the system security shows up to help. You get most of all the bounties and a clue as to where you could find the same faction pirates in that particular system! After awhile you are seen as hostile and can take missions in the bulletin board to help the local security end their unwelcomed stay in the system. Or maybe you like the pirates/criminals in the system and want to help them. Instead of just randomly throwing criminal missions on the bullentin board, you find one of these locations, help the pirates and as a show of "thanks" they give you a mission to head to a nearby station for more "missions" and credits. giving you a bit of a storyline into the underside/darkside of the galaxy!
I didnt even get into how I feel that the other "job" types should get looked at for its gameplay. Exploring could use a more hands on approach than just "Look for something that moves!" I.E. Directional Scanner that you can play with distance and clarity (The further away you try to scan, the less clarity you get of unknown objects. Icon could look like the flashing ship icons when you are too far for a accurate scan. False readings until you narrow your search or get "eyes on" the object. I'll make another post about exploring and ideas I have for it as well!)
4. Transmission Not Sent, could not connect to Frontier
Issue: While trying to send text or voice comms, more often than not, I will get that above message "Transmission not sent" so much so that I have stopped using the in game chat entirely, adding people on skype or my steam account to talk to them there. I love the in game voice chat and being able to see texts in game, but its just so unreliably bad right now!
- I have no idea if its an intended feature that you are only allowed to send texts/voice comms from a certain distance to the player. It would make sense because its highly unlikely that you can send a signal with instaneous responses from 90 light years away. However, I do not believe that it was an intended feature as Iv seen people on streams/youtube videos who do not have this issue with anyone.
- This problem could just be my connection to the server. I do have rather bad internet, so much so that I sometimes play Solo out of respect for other players who might seem my laggy ship bouncing all over the galaxy!
5. NPC Shoots! HE SCORES! CMDR Histarium gets a 9,000 Credit Bounty! *crowd cheers*
Issue: Sometimes an NPC will shoot at me first, and I will then proceed to have a bounty. Sometimes, an NPC will show up having a 6k Bounty... I blow them up but instead of getting 6,000 credits, I get that as my "Wanted Bounty".
- Irritating and frustrating to get a random bounty and then shot at by other NPCs or worse, another player.
- I am not referencing the times where a System Security Ship would fly directly threw my line of fire, getting hit and then giving me a 200 cr bounty, which he then proceeded to shoot at me for. I get that its probably hard to fix and is probably more realistic if THAT specific aspect is left alone.
- I do not feel like, getting a bounty after killing a wanted target, is "working as intended", nor do I feel like being shot by a wanted NPC and then getting a bounty, despite not shooting at anything prior to getting the bounty.
- I have seen other people write about this issue on the forums. Just detailing it again as its entirely frustrating to deal with when I had no control over it. Would be different if I did something on purpose to get the bounty, like shooting at a ship thats not wanted in that system.
- Yes, one time while in Empire space, (I think the system was called Raxato?) I shot at and destroyed a wanted target which had a 9,650cr Bounty displayed on my screen. I then proceeded to get an exact 9,650cr bounty on MY head after he blew up.
Again, I love the game to death and Iv been playing it almost obsessively after work and on the weekends! Just wanted to detail a few issues I experienced myself with the game!
Keep up the good work Frontier!
