Gameplay/Galaxy dichotomy?

I would have also very much preferred Elite 4 to be a single player game building on the mechanics of Frontier and First Encounters (though possibly with more interesting combat) however I don't see much point in dwelling on that since FD are not going to change their plans at this point, no matter what.

Well the good news is... you can still play completely SP with the only connection to Frontier server used as a continuous update of the galaxy.
Ain't future just amazingly bright? :D

It's not the ability to play single player that I'm yearning for, it's all those additional features enabled by it, like time compression, orbital mechanics, system-wide scan ranges, etc.

I'm happy with the travel system that has now been proposed. And I would say a big thanks to the DDF for raising concerns with the initial proposal and also to Frontier for listening.

Overall I'm happy with the way ED is shaping up. I'm not a fan of realism over gameplay. For me this is a game and I want to have fun. I don't want to have to think too hard about the physics and plausibility behind it all. Some of the threads on here about orbits and relative speeds make my head hurt, I just don't really understand them. The key for me is that ED is a game, not a simulation.
