Gameplay potential of Elevators

Currently we got elevators on hangars that let us go to the concourse and nothing more, but they also have the potential of moving us to new instances so let's imagine:

  • You got a mission that ask you to go to a specific floor of a station, so when you go to the elevator a new stance shows up, then you go in and a map is generated (maybe on a set of predertermined maps or maybe some procedural would be nice), so in fact we have here a "dungeon".
  • On a surface site there are some doors that could also be some kind of "entrances" or "elevators" to underground sites, same mechanic as above for mission handling, maybe different flavour
  • New POI of Caverns that spawns near a mountain, or maybe a hole in the ground moves you to undergound setting (Thargoid infeste caves????)

As for this thread of exploration suggestion: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/exploration-gameplay-suggestion.606896/ I think that these could also be something you could found in deep space, so exploration had a better gameplay.

  • All abandoned settlements would be nice to be explored this way
  • Abandoned stations spawned random
  • Delerict Ships big enough to land and enter with some elevator entrance.
  • Caves as above mentioned.

To take full advantage of the three suits a cave (based on a Threat level) could have some/lots/none of this three things
  • Combat stuff: Aliens, local fauna, Scavengers.
  • Download points, lockers with codes, maybe somebody scanneable to get a security level to acces some rooms, things locked to make use of the welder tool
  • Some strange fauna to make use of the Artemis tool to find rare fauna, maybe to scan those aliens/local faune killed (or not maybe peaceful)

This way, depending on the mission/dungeon type you could go by yourself or assemble a good party with combo of combat/loot/science stuff

What do you think guys?

Lifts

Just steer clear of section 7 level 5 ... ;)

I would rather see a system of corridors, tunnels, stairs and other rooms as an alternative to using elevators. Concourse and landing pads are official no-fire zone at the station, so entering one deactivates all handheld weapons. Moving through the tunnels would involve some risk to meet a criminal or security guards depending on the rating with local factions. As a reward one could meet a contact providing mission with higher reward or just find some random stash with materials etc.

I think a combination of both would be great. The lift idea is a great one for exclusively mission-based objectives because the mission player(s) could be presented with another target for the lift destination versus other players who aren't assigned to the mission. This would reduce potential for "gankers" ruining the mission, and also limit the amount of shared state for all entities in the mission instance.

Absolutely brilliant idea 1000000%

It would enable activities like "break out" missions on prison ships. That would be tremendous fun and something sorely lacking.

Those are pretty cool suggestions! I don't think we're getting caves anytime soon, but procgen facilities/floors are certainly within reach of the Cobra engine I think.

Nice one! Hopefully FDEV notices this and will take note :)

Great ideas! Substancially what I had in mind first time I used a lift : "this UI means more destinations in the future", same as alternate mode system of tools yells "the plasma cutter can't not have a welding mode in the future!"

I can live without cave systems, but "dungeons" in stations, megaships, and why not shipwrecks and fleet carriers are an obvious way to expand on-foot gameplay.

All great ideas. Underground facilities accessed by an elevator would be awesome. Would pull you away from your ship/SRV which makes things more dangerous.

I would also love to see missions to orbiting stations similar to ground settlements. A lof of them could be the same types of missions, just on stations as well as settlements.
