(Gameplay) Search and Rescue: FD. What are you even try to do with it? What is a point?

Worst possible way to implement "salvaging" in elite to day.

What the "GOAL" they are even talking about?! THERE IS NO GOAL AT ALL.

Seriously.. how this even managed to get out from design room?

How is it in game.. and why did you call this a new mechanic?

This thing.. poorly.. if even designed at all.. It HURTS to even look at it!

Even just adding much more money for every item "search and rescue line" could just fix this mess a bit. If you whould care..

But whould you?

Saw this the other week and placed it in the "ignore" pile along with CQC and Power Play.

I mean, at least spice it up so that we have to rescue from the middle of CZs. Declare a side and rescue people while dodging fire.

Sweet Nora, it says everything that players can come up with better ideas with barely a moment's thought.. The core concept is great, but the current implementation and reward structure is atrocious.

Yea, that is what i am talking about. The real potential is so so much bigger and better than the we get instead.

My main jobs lately have been as a high value salvager and so I've done a bit of stuff for the S&R crew, but as it stands, it needs some work. Cargo scooping without limpets quickly and efficiently is a good skill to have. I would enjoy doing search and rescue operations in really densely packed debris fields that are a challenge to navigate, maybe that are so dense we'd need small ships, maybe there are mines too? I generally want to see more of the assets like the CQC arenas placed in the game and have piloting challenges rather than just combat... Maybe for smuggling, too? Maybe sometimes we need to go pick something up from a dead drop out in space and it's hidden inside of a complex like that...

I suspect it's either not finished yet, or there's stuff in 2.4 that's not appeared. If it's the former not sure why it's there though.

Yeah I'm hoping it's a first step towards something more involved. There'd been mutterings (can't say outcry) about what to do with escape pods and such - before you just sold them on the black market which was a little ominous if you're role-playing a nice CMDR...

I use it a bit if I come across pods etc while I'm doing a black box mission or collecting materials, but not as "thing" in itself - more money would be nice!

Anyone know if it affects the BGS much?

Holly lord.. Your idea with dense area and mines.. Damn.. Too good to be implemented smh..

I love how they've introduced it at the same time as the hundreds of escape pods in cool new situations all over the Pleiades. It seems someone at Frontier had a broad very interesting vision about how it was supposed to all come together. It's a shame he probably fell down the stairs and is on sick leave since two months or something...

At a minimum S&R needs it's selling prices increased greatly to make them worth it. Ideally though there would be some other changes to improve it to, like a dedicated mission board at the salvage contact just for S&R missions, and allowing mining lasers to salvage components and scrap from debris fields / ship wrecks.

As it is now it's just very sad.

The silence from FD is deafening... [down]

Seriously: They've got to be aware. One would think they could at least comment.

And if they're not aware of the player attitude regarding this feature - well - that's an even bigger issue.

I'm also hoping it's a placeholder, this is not search and rescue, this is "Oh, I happened to find some of these box thingy's, how much you give me for them?"

I'm sure they are aware, but just like ice mining paying like dirt for over a year now, I just don't think it's important enough to them to warrant either a comment or any development time to improve. Maybe in 2018 with the focus on the core they will finally address little but glaring problems like these. We can only hope, because Frontier ain't talking. Not yet anyway.

This!

I've been having great fun recently, popping into Non-Human Sig sources and trying my damnest to rescue everyone I can from the 'Goids.

Even more challenging/fun if you don't use limpets and allow the 'Goid to scan you first and then go about it's business before attempting rescue!
