.. either being youngsters or perhaps those games not being mainstream or popular enough for the masses.
Chaos: Battle of the Wizards
Still highly playable, and has inspired many games over the years. Fairly simplistic but deeply strategic. And apparently i just discovered there is a remake, Chaos Reborn in the works (my credit card is calling).
Sacrifice
I mentioned Chaos inspired some later games, and this was one. Third person now and real time, but mainly the same idea. Amazingly enough, the graphics still look good on modern hardware.
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
This is a strange one. Kind of a third person strategy, and the campaign had some good humour. Its most distinguising feature though was how each of the 3 sides plays radically different.
Emperor: Battle for Dune
Dune 2 was the inspiration for many later games, including the C&C series. Produced by Westwood this was a groundbreaking game in the RTS genre. You could even play multiplayer via a serial cable, as we did on the office PCs! (high tech!). But why Emperor over Dune 2 or Dune 2000. All were great, and its not really because of the 3D graphics. Mainly it is down to its skirmish mode that allows you to choose two sub-houses for additional units and therefore greater army customization. Any fan of RTS and the Dune books should definitely have this one in their library.
Dungeon Keeper 2
Anyone who was around at the time shouldn't have missed at least seeing this one, but its still a great game to play (there is a remake released, although i've heard mixed things about it, but apparently latest patches fix a lot of issues, see: War of the Overworld). The two main attractions of this game was the role reversal (you play the bad guy, the keeper of a dungeon of evil creatures, killing the invading good guys), and the humour, helped a lot by the voice of the narrator. Even small things, like if you have two idle mistresses and a torture chamber, they will head off there and torture each other. Seriously, if you have never played this game, do so.

This is a FREE game. Its a turn based strategy and fairly simple with some good campaigns. If you like this sort of thing, it will provide you with many hours of fun.
As you can see, i tend to have a penchant for strategy type games, although i do enjoy other genres as well. Anyway, feel free to add your recommendations.
