Gaming chair and cockpit

I thought I'd share this in case anybody else is interested, especially if you do VR.

I bought a couple of Recaro seats. You can find them and many others on Ebay. I had a crappy office chair on a swivel base, so I removed the base, made an adapter out of 6mm plywood and bolted the seat to the base. I added a couple of lumps of wood as reinforcers so that I could clamp my Virpil supports to them. Like that, you can play on a laptop or with VR. I got a small 4k monitor and put it on a flexible stand which you can clamp to any shelf or table. Now I have the most comfortable playing situation you can get. The other Recaro seat is the fully electric orthopedic one with heating, triple lumbar and everything else adjustable. Now that I'm happy with how this one worked out, I'll do that one.

I ended up drilling a couple of holes and bolting my setup straight to the frame since clamps kept slipping. It’s solid now and doesn’t move during long sessions.

I have shared it a few times already, I use an IKEA Poäng as Pilot's chair. It is the only chair I can sit in for hours on end without getting a back ache. I fly in VR.

I have covered the arms with velcro plush and attached my VKBs to them. I also secured them with zip ties. I also have a Streamdeck XL as button box and a wireless keyboard on goosenecks.

All cables are routed under the chair to a small USB hub that runs a cable to my PC.

I went through something similar a few months back and ended up checking out Contemporary Furniture UK. They had a few rig-friendly chairs that didn’t look out of place in my home office, which was a huge bonus. Some of their stuff is more low-profile, so it won’t make your space feel cramped like some racing cockpits can. Might be worth a look if you're into a cleaner setup.

I'm more of a couch or beanbag chair kind of video game player, bonus points if it's in a basement with a beverage cooler nearby.

But, I can certainly appreciate the efforts for a more immersive and capable setup.

Cheers.
