It's certainly more accepted as a pastime/hobby than it used to be...considering 99% of people in western society own and use a mobile phone... and play games on them
This hasn't been my experience, having grown up with gaming culture from BBC B and Commodore Amiga days.
Which isn't to say that these days as many of my friends still play games, but a decent sized cohort do and are happy to sit and chat and enthuse, albeit not quite as much as we do about sheds and jet washers.....

Frontier games is now a PC first with some console. Ignoring Smartphones which are more powerful than Computers of the past and ubiquitous is a big mistake. 'Western society' More play in China Japan India.
Expanded question . Why is it everyone I have asked 'Do you play video games' reply . Sorry But I am not interested in playing your video games. Fun fact Frontier devs dont actual play the games they make the we the buying gamers does!
