Hardware & Technical Gaming mice ideas?

So I'm in great hardware-destroying form recently and my mouse just got the dreaded "double click" fault. I've decided to get a new gaming mouse but not really sure what to go for. Too many choices and my indecision is killing me.

I have a fingertip grip and need a pretty narrow mouse. I'm aiming for at least 7 buttons this time as well. No Razer products, too many faults in the past to give them any more cash.

Any ideas or recommendations?

Has anyone bothered to ask the mouse what it thinks about these 'games'?

What kind of keyboard do you have? Might be a good idea to match manufacturers if you use macros.

aww there goes my suggestion. I have 2 of the Razer Naga (the original which I use for travel on my laptop, and the 2012 which I use on my workstation), I've never had a problem with any of their equipment, except for the 360 controller but I wrote that as a one off.

I have had good luck with Logitech equipment, never had one of their gaming mice, but I do use a G13 and a G19 for gaming, and love them both. The 600 looks nice.

I'm actually using an incredibly cheapo Trust keyboard because it is extremely quiet for making video. Before that I had a Microsoft one which was nice but had ghosting issues so got thrown out. I've tried a bunch of different ones but most are way too clicky and noisy.

I use a Logitech G600 - more buttons than you could need...

Yes I've been looking at it. I like the look of those buttons.

Right that's 2 recommendations for the G600 then so looking good so far.

Lol thats a LOT of buttons on a mouse! I myself use the G502 and I think it uses the same sensor as the G600. I can heartily recommend it. Tracks extremely smooth and well on both cloth and hard surfaces (useless on glass though).

G600 does track very well. I particularly like the third "traditional" mouse button, i.e. under the right ring finger (like an old style three button mouse, alongside the traditional left/right click fingers). That, together with a clickable and "tiltable" wheel and two other buttons on top and all the side buttons gives you enough for anything.

I have this mouse I bought for very cheap with my new PC in december, I wanted something cool and futuristic, with a wire, but not too expensive. It works fine and looks really good! Definitely worth its price, and it makes me wonder why anyone would pay absurd amounts of money for "premium" brands. Just make sure the surface you use it on is dark, I had some issues on a mouse mat with bright colors. I since bought a black mat and it's perfect.

In all honesty I've used both expensive and cheap mice and find very little difference between them. Had a couple of Razers and never again though, they broke within weeks. Best mouse I've had in a while was a cheap Gigabyte M6800 that I bought off my distributor for about £6! I'm pretty tempted to get another one, just I think I might want more than 5 buttons now...

That G502 is a good looking mouse - I think I was looking at the G402 as well but both lend themselves more to palm grips from what I've read.

Well I use the G502 both with finger grip (turn based strategy, desktop publishing and other stuff that require slow precision) and palm grip (first person shooters and similar twitchbased games). It is a jack of all trades. I think its hard to find a pure finger grip mouse with lots of buttons to be honest.

You can say what you want about the "premium" peripherals Logitech produce, but the thing is I have used Logitech for years and they always deliver durable and reliable products. I just recently threw my old Dual Optical away ... it was 15 years old and I had worn through the plastic on one corner! And Logitech was never the most expensive brand. You usually got what you paid for.

Lately price has gone up considerably, but so has the quality of the equipment and the software (the Romer-G keys on the Orion Spark are awesome!). Logitech Gaming software has evolved into an elegant and practical way to manage settings and macros.

Still, if you are on a budget, go for cheaper stuff.

A lot of people say the logitech stuff is really good - tbh I've never owned a single peripheral from them but I generally go on what I read. I did read that a lot of their mice get the double-click issue.

No actual budget per-se, just whatever is best I'll go for. I tend to agonise over this stuff for days before deciding, that's why I need all the input I can get lol.

Got a Zowie for playing shooters. Doubleclick issue appeared after a few weeks. You can never be sure. Logitech will get more reported issues because they sell a lot more products. Of course, when products become more complex, there will be more things that can go wrong too. I got an old PS/2 keyboard and rollermouse lying in a closet. 20 years old still works like new :)

Yeah it's true, I mean I've had issues with Razer stuff non stop both for myself or others that had bought their gear through me. Others swear by it of course.

If I could get a lighter, narrower version of the G600 with maybe 6 less side buttons I'd grab it in an instant.

Right so I totally forgot my mate had a G600 - yes I love those buttons but it's way too big.

As I said I tend to agonise over this stuff for days (weeks?) Still no closer to buying a mouse and now my replacement one is suffering from a slippy scroll wheel so it's getting desperate!

Have you considered a trackball? The advantage of a trackball is it doesn't move around so you never fumble for it.

I use a Razr Nostromo hand-pad next to my throttle, and a trackball next to my joystick.

(Edit: I wouldn't say I "swear by" my Razr gear but I've got 2 nostromos which I pounded hard for 2 years of World of Warcraft button-mashing, with no trouble at all)

I never actually thought about a trackball. Tbh I've been using a mouse for so long now I doubt I'll ever be able to use anything else half as well. I loved the immersion of the HOTAS but I just couldn't get near the skill I have with the mouse.

Anyone got a Steelseries Sensei and got stuff to report? Kinda late as I've bought it now anyway, but I've mostly read good stuff about it.

Edit - Nevermind, I just cancelled the order lol. :p So indecisive, needs more research. Thinking about a Zowie FK1...
