Gaming PC reccomendations

I told myself that I would not buy a new PC for just one game but I can't help it I HAVE TO! Planet coaster is just amazing and the fact that I can't enjoy it is really bothering me. Right now, I have an Acer laptop with 8gb ram, 4gb DDR3 memory, intel core i5 and intel hd graphics. The game looks really bad on my laptop but so amazing on more powerful PC's. It is also quite slow if i set my graphics preset to "high" therefore i have to play in the lowest possible graphics in order to allow the game to run smoothly (and even then it is still a little slow at times) i just want some recommendations for PC's that would run planet coaster well, i don't think that I can spend more than £400 because I don't have that much. It will be my 18th birthday in two months so i'll hopefully get some money from family etc that can be used to put towards the price of the PC. Any help or advice would be really appreciated, thank you[big grin]

This PC looks good but i'm not sure how well it will run planet coaster : http://www.game.co.uk/en/fierce-bru...40&categoryIdentifier=906276&sortBy=PRICE_ASC

The Radeon HD 8370D integrated graphics are not a stand alone GPU , but are actually part of the CPU and would more than likely not support Planet Coaster.

Processor speed is very important IMHO. I have an I7-4790K 4.0ghz and it runs the game flawlessly. You dont need a processor this fast but at least a 3.0ghz should work fine. Also make sure you have at least a 4gb video card if you want flawless play.

The original PC you posted, from the GAME.co.uk website, is very very weak, the processor is an AMD A4, very slow. I would recommend splashing out a bit more cash and getting a core i5 with a dedicated graphics card. Does not have to be top of the line. Processor speed is important, but it is not as important as other factors when working out a CPU's overall speed and power.

In addition to that, I would say try and steer clear of highstreet shops like GAME, Currys etc. as they do tend to charge extortionate prices for things that shouldn't be expensive. By all means shop around in these places but always make sure you look online as you will be able to get better PCs for hundreds less than in those shops. I just got a new gaming PC for my 18th a few weeks ago for around £500. Feel free to PM if you want help as I can see you're in a similar position to what I was two months ago [cool]

All the PC stuff from Game is provided by PC Specialist or Overclockers at the same price as Overclockers sell it for. If anyone needs help specifying a machine I would suggest going to the Overclockers forum and being a member. There is a great support for everyone and a dedicated post section to discuss best pc options/setup for the cost.

There are so many options and possibilities that it would take pages to really detail out what to look at, what may/may not work for you and your budget.

Regards,

Adam

I was in the Overclocker's showroom the other week in Newcastle Under Lyme in Staffordshire, some of the systems they have in there for gaming are unreal. Especially good for PC.

Yeah I have never had chance to visit the store but have shopped from them for the last 7 years or so because of their customer service and forums. Although you can get parts cheaper from certain places I have found that should anything go wrong in can be much more of a hassle.

Overclockers have a lot of exclusive warranty perks with the larger graphics board suppliers too at moment.

this sim sure is optimized for cpu usage, all my core's are at 97% during gameplay.I hope to see some of this off loaded to the gpu more, i am not a programmer , so i don't know how much work would need to be put into it.something to think about while the sim is in early stages. the larger the park the more my cpu is hammered.i have absolutely no problems running the sim, but some just don't have that kind of horse power.

Thanks for all of your help, is it possible for someone to send me a direct link to a specific PC that would be suitable for the game because i'm so lost at the moment [squeeeeee] The second i think that something is good, it turns out to be bad [cry] thanks in advance for whoever helps [happy] Also, you're all basically telling me that I have to spend around £500 or a little less for a PC that would run the game really well?... Thats a bit too much over my price range but I guess i'll have to track down the best possible PC at the lowest price, it'll probably take some time to find the ideal one for me

With your £400 budget, do you need a monitor, windows and kb/mouse? Do you already have any parts that you can use? With low budget setups like that I pretty much always look at buying second hand, however this only works if you know what you're looking for and what works with what. If you need to get everything like windows, PSU, hard disks and a monitor it's going to be hard to get anything worthwhile with £400 brand new.

if you know how to build a PC and don't mind second hand though:

i5 2500K (overclockable)+motherboard+8GB DDR £150: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Intel-i5-...431095?hash=item1a13afb1b7:g:wnMAAOSwfC9XOdQk

500W PSU £30: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OCZ-Steal...073661?hash=item56874bb6fd:g:wL8AAOSwLs5XKLTk

GTX760 £85: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gainward-...331457?hash=item1a1446c301:g:AzgAAOSwBPNXSE4c

500GB HDD £10: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seagate-S...719319?hash=item464eadbb97:g:S48AAOSwEOxXQb3w

Mid tower case from anywhere, seen them as cheap as £14.99 - £30

Windows 10 key £15: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Windows-1...662671?hash=item4aff0d9f0f:g:QacAAOSwHJhXNO0f

Cooling fans - £10

Total - 329.99

This is only to give you an idea of what you can get. Obviously don't buy any of this stuff if you're not sure how to assemble a computer etc. I'd recommend reading guides on how to do so and also looking around for items as some of the stuff I've linked I've seen so way cheaper.

Just for background, my PC was self-built - it has an i5-4690K 3.5Ghz, 4 core; 8Gb RAM; GeForce GTX 770, 2Gb GFX; WIN 10; and it runs PC just fine (so far).

It also has a Sound Blaster X, and to my mild surprise (and huge relief) this improved the sounds noticably in Elite Dangerous, but then my mobo is v cheap, and so the on-board sound likely even cheaper!

Hope this helps at least a little.

Thanks so much ! This seems okay, I can get like a £60 monitor and a cheap keyboard and mouse. Are you 100% sure that it'll run the game really good?[cool]

I promise you [happy] This is better than my PC, it has a more new-gen processor. If you want to be sure, take a look at the minimum specs for Planet Coaster here: https://forums.planetcoaster.com/sh...u-need-to-know-about-the-Planet-Coaster-alpha 4th paragraph down [happy] If you do get it, let me know! :)

I think this might be the one, thanks so much for your help![happy][happy][happy] I just have two last questions, first: how do i know if i'll be able to connect to wifi because some PC's need that cable thing and i prefer just the wireless wifi connection, under the networking section it says "Realtek 10/100/1000 LAN" but this looks like a different language to me [haha][haha] and second: according to someone else, you need minimum of 3.0 ghz but this one only has 2.7 ghz, would this really make a difference?

The CPU has 3.3 GHz in Turbo Mode. So it should be fine.
Together with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 you should run the game smooth an medium settings.

Realtek 10/100/1000 LAN.....this generally means it only connects via wired and doesnt have wireless ability. it would say wifi next to that if it did.

just so you know, wireless will always be slower no matter what you do, keep that in mind if you stream and download or play online games. signal strength also effects this. so unless its a location issue (not anywhere near a way to connect wired) i would suggest wired. second, devices to connect wifi are generally not expensive, dont let that sway your purchase. (there are tons of cheap options for ones that connect via USB youll be able to find at your local electronics store)
