gaming whatt happened

Was really looking forward to Battlefront II and COD WW2 then rea the review.

Proves fancy graphics are not enough when games lack gameplay and not just pure cash grabs.

I've heard Battlefront II is pretty good except you know "You have to pay over $2,000. Or play the game for around 4,600 hours to unlock all the heroes"

So a bit like SC then...

How many hours does it take to unlock a Anaconda?

Somones going to say it so might as well be me, EA, but its been a slippery slope for some time now.

Been gaming since I was young teenager, even before that if you count the arcades, its almost come full circle with instead of putting 10p in the slot for a game of Tempest and 10p to contiune its, a fiver here and a fiver there for this or that depending on what game im playing.

I was also thinking about Battle Front2 , but now wont be touching it with a rather large barge pole one. Said in another post a while back think Im done with EA games ME A, was the straw that broke this camels back, I do still have orgin on my machine but more out of I have older games that I play from time to time but even they have been given the EA cash grab treatment.

There are still games out there though worth playying some are even free, one or two come with the now embeded cash for credits, or the like, but thankfully the ones I play you can get by without touching that side of it, or at least not as much as other games.

Spent 5 euros or somthing in warframe the other day as I needed more slots for some warframes I had got through
quests and making one or two, but over all for a free game it gives a lot, and the wife spent around 3 euros in HOTS, as a character came out from the WOW side off it and it was one of her fav's from back when she played it, again for a free game that weve been playing over two years its not so hard to send a little cash thier way, but not to do what EA are doing with SWBF2, even more so after you have to pay 60 odd euros (think its 60ish Krona here) for the base game and then stuff is unlocked behined a huge grind wall or its get the CC out so nah not for me.

gaming went from a nerd affair to a mass market, currently biggest entertainment business by far. it's been a while, actually. that's what happened, what would you expect?

if you want original, innovative and refreshing gaming try indie and small developers. although beware 'indie' has become a market label too ...

With todays earnings in Elite...far too short but then when one manages to get it it takes too long to grind the insurance.

I honestly think the core pricing of everything in ED needs a rework.

CoD has been crap since Modern Warfare 2. Online play is just a festering crap hole. Lol
Battlefront (any of them) I never played. Not big fan to be honest. I prefer the single player campaign games.
But CoD just needs to be put to rest. It died a long time ago, just let it go!

Battlefield 2 was my favourite battlefield game, then Bad Company 2.
Battlefield 3&4 were pretty good, but they learned heavily on unlocking better equipment, so the good got better, and newbies struggle to compete.
Took me ages to unlock a half decent weapon and attachments, because I was getting owned by the veterans. In the end, I just stole other weapons, and used those to get my kills up. Lol
Plus EA left loads of imbalances in the games for too long, which basically ruined it.
Plus EA turned them in to cash grabs. Pay £40 for the game, then pay another £20 for a map or two. Several times over.
Then they release an new, almost identical game, for £40, then charge for more maps, in a never ending cycle. Lol

But this is coming from a grumpy old man (I'm 34 lol). And I enjoy my more 'mature' games these days.
All the online shooters are full of squeaky kids, who's voices are like nails on a chalkboard to me. Lol

ARMA III, Elite Dangerous, XCOM, etc for the win. :p

I have been waiting for a good sp Star Wars game for years now.
It seems it ain't going to happen. EA is busy destroying the Star Wars IP, like it destroyed my beloved Mass Effect.

The sp campaign of BF2 is apparently not worth it at all.
Eventually I will be able to buy that game for a fiver. Perhaps I will try it then.

Corporate greed happened. I used to buy my games for £10 on cassette tapes. You bought your game, you played your game. That was it.

Now you buy a game, but really you are buying what was left over from a game since the rest was carved off and sold to you at additional cost as day 1 DLC. Worse yet, you are tempted into buying a season pass, which will give you back even more stuff that should have been in the game to begin with.

Fortunately there are still smaller developers out there who aren't yet at the point of joining up with the likes of EA and cashing out. But watch out! That favourite developer of yours that has given you enjoyable games for years and years? They might be getting big, or desperate enough, to come to the attention of EA. Like the Eye of Sauron, it sweeps the dusty plains seeking out new prey to suck the life out of.

Not even a broken sword reforged can save us from that evil. But keeping your money in your pocket can as that is the only thing they truly fear.

OK you can argue the cost of production has gone up. Or they are not getting the volume or compete with casual gaming., OR iq have dropped..

Then again, your $10 cassette didnt even have a tiny fraction of the gameplay of your average EA 'rip-off'.

"I remember when in the old days I sometimes got a peanut for free! Nowadays they make you pay extra for your wine that should be part of the six course meal! For shame!" :p

For myself, wrt single player games, graphics is always less important than both good story, and good gameplay.
As far as EA et al, and the culture of monetizing everything, it's all in the consumers' hands.
If people are happy to dish out $$$, only an idiot would not charge the consumer for extras, be it aesthetics like lasers, or game altering add ons.
