Gamma 2.0 First Impressions

After my first hour or so of playing Gamma 2.0 I have the following observations.

1) Much prefer the new Super Cruise transitions. They feel so much smoother than in previous versions.

2) There seem to be a hell of a lot more USS around. In my last system I found at least 10 on my way to the local station. This is a good thing!

3) My left and right displays are quite juddery when docked. It's a little off putting

4) Orbit lines are no longer masked by planets. This makes it more difficult to judge if a station is in front or behind a planet.

5) The separate reputation tab is a big improvement.

6) Galaxy map is a big improvement, especially with the route planner.

Overall I'm impressed with what I've seen so far. Certainly a nice progression leading up to the final release.

I would add a few other small niceties:
- Cooldown on FSD now visual (bottom right) - very useful when escaping
- Graphical improvements to Rankings Insignia
- Handing in missions gives an impact update (1% boom, increased rep etc) - useful
- Wear and Tear costs £££ (or CR CR CR)... this is correct that it should
- Increased variety of missions (even though a bit buggy atm - shortly fixed!!!)
- Route planner extends into jump steps (i.e. you plan a route 5 systems away, when you go from 1st to 2nd, it targets the 3rd system automatically, enabled quick jumping without selecting each time...)

Good news, I had just read a thread about the planner only showing the distance of your jump bubble. If it is updating at each jump, all is good.

What's the ship's voice volume like?
It seems fine to me, but I hadn't had an issue before.

I should check my wear and tear. It was completely free in the last Gamma.

I wondered why I couldn't plot my way home back to Aiabiko 180+ly away. :)

- When you target a station with a mission objective, it appears as an exclamation point on your left target view area.

Tacky and I don't like it. I'm not stupid. I know where I'm flying. I don't like the generic "one size fits all" solar system hologram either.

i like 99% of this patch

the only thing that i think need some tweak is the left side panel, where it show our current target, so like Danger Mouse and Googlebug already say, the real system with correct number of planet if discovered need to be showed here, and no exclamation point for stations.

but i presume that it is already planned ;-)

Impressions generally favourable. One gripe however is that wear and tear charges (we knew they were coming) are extortionate - 330K for my Asp after 180ly. This is close to insurance replacement cost, doesn't appear to affect anything that matters (unless you paid for a fancy paint job). If you add up individual w&t charges it would work out at less than 10% of the total figure. Has someone added an extra '0' to the charging model?

Generally feels a massive step up from gamma 1.0x for me:
- entering/leaving SC is now much smoother.
- galaxy map is a lot less cluttered with the UI changes.
- the route planner thing is a very welcome addition, makes navigation less of an irritation - still be nice if the map maintained the camera view/orientation rather than resetting each time you use it.
- the audio overall (which has always been awesome IMHO) is even better, much more ambience, I've been buzzing other ships, stations, wrecks, etc. just to hear the sounds :)
- missions feel a lot richer now, combined with the enhanced UI for reputation makes for a more immersive experience.
- the FSD cooldown UI is another welcome addition.

Hope FD resolve the 'spinning ship' issue quickly for those experiencing it.

Agree on both points. This feature was fine before, no need to change it.

I'm also still finding it stuttery, especially on SC approach to a station.

I like it in general, but I am always getting shot at by Fed fighters when only bounty hunting wanted ships... I have no fines and they just start shooting?

Had to turn mine down...previously had it on full, so I guess it's fixed
In fact all the audio sounds 'beefier' to me

I would be interested in having male voice for computer instead of female.

Unless you are being super nerdy and referring to the ships sound as its voice.

I couldnt even play Gamma 2 last night got chucked off after five minutes in the game and couldnt select any missions due to server issues when I was actually in the game. So I have no idea if its better or worse than the previous patch but I am sure it wont have external views in it yet and that is the only thing I want to see now (other than a lot more ships and more imaginative ships that recycled present ones like the Adder and the Lakon 7 or whatever it is) - the rest is just fluff and balancing for me.

I will probbaly hold off playing till the game is properly released I just cant be bothered with getting chucked off every five minutes, the previous patch was bad enough with the crashes to desktop etc every session. I cant play unstable games, they just get me really frustrated. If Frontier dont sort these issues this is going to be a big failure of a game on release with nobody able to play it and that would be great shame.

surprised no one mentioned faster landing pad rotation. it now only drops you half way down the shaft and rotates much faster.
It no longer annoying to see.
