Gamma 2.05 huge improvement in text legibility !

Definitely not my imagination - Gamma 2.05 is like getting a 50% boost in resolution. Everything is so much clearer - I can see fine blue lines on the direction indicator that were invisible before. And best of all, text is hugely improved in legibility, right from the rift safety warning screen. I'm also able to lean in MUCH closer to display screens.

Probably something to do with an update to the DK2 SDK.

Very exciting update - thank you FD !!

Did you happen to have the Oculus Quality Setting slider lowered? as I found that even if its set half way, after a restart, even though it will still show the slider as being half way, it will actually of set itself at the highest setting again.

The only time I noticed a significant change to the eligibility of the text, was when I changed the colour of the HUD and dashboard to green.

So much clearer.

Nosh

I've been running it with the quality slider at max for a couple of weeks since getting a 970 card. I've spent ages fiddling and tweaking settings, but I haven't seen an improvement of this magnitude before.

Fired up 2.05 and there's a tangible difference. Could have been something co-incidental that changed on my system at the same time, but I don't recall making changes. Perhaps it's specific to Nvidia cards, or a particular model of card - but I aint imagining this. Alternatively, it could have been a change 2.04 - I didn't get chance to play that yesterday.

I'm also seeing improved frame rates - inside the station on training missions is buttery smooth 75fps. Can't get into Open at the moment, but expect that's improved too.

I'm usually highly sceptical of claims of improvements, but this is for real. The star field is sharper, text is more legible, and as mentioned there are details I can see that were previously invisible.

Rubbish, still the same, confirmed. Delete thread

No. It's changed, confirmed.

Sorry if you aren't seeing it, but it does't mean that I aren't.

I've thought there's improvement in G2.x as well. Although not sure which patch exactly as I started with 2.04

The fix for Comms panel blocking input to the Station Services screen is also very much appreciated, and it seems to me the left and right side panels are less sensitive to head movement, so you can view the text better without the things closing down on you.

patch gamma 204 was fantastic it all worked great with oculus and a lot clearer now with 205 its all screwed up. It runs really slow, keeps crashing and hanging all the time a real BIG step backward for me!!! Hope the full release sorts it out once and for all!!!

Delete the Internet you big rubbish fools! :)

I think that the sweet spot for optimal text legibility is so small that even a slight change throws it off. Making the text green instead of orange is probably the best way to fix this but I'm going to wait for Frontier to do it.

I reall dont want to change colors of my targets with changing HUD colors. I'll wait for frontier to do it or give me the option.

Agreed! I thought i was going crazy but there's something not quite right with 205, It's giving me headaches which didn't happen before

I have noticed that the DK2 has a very narrow 'sweet spot' for alighnment with your eyes - sometimes just putting it on in a different way can have a big impact to things like legibility, and getting a headache.

I'm not talking about that though - something definitely stepped up resolution for me yesterday. For instance, the direction scanner - previously I had a hard time working out if it was solid or hollow. Now I can even see thin blue lines on the background !

Im having a hard time believing this since the dk2 has an absolute maximum resolution and you can literally see the individual pixels. Software can't help that.
I haven't noticed any differences at all. The only thing I can think of is that AA is enabled and you didn't realize it or something.

Opposite for me, tried 2.06 today, and text is almost unreadable. I also happened to use the "disable other monitors" trick today, might be related? Performance felt better, slightly, but text... horribly blurry.
