Gamma access and game modes

Hi everyone,

i'm new to this forum, and i recently discovered this awesome game. I read most of the informations i found about ED, and i am very impressed. I have however two questions left , and i'm sorry if they have been answered already :

1) Where can i buy gamma access? I can only order beta and released game from the website.

2) How do the singleplayer and multiplayer experiences work together? Can i start the game singleplayer and later switch the same character to multiplayer?

Thanks

1. If you purchase beta now this will include access to the gamma when its ready. No date has been set for this yet other than frontier saying the finished game should be available by the end of 2014.

2. Pretty sure you can't swap the same game commander between single and multiplayer.

1) Gamma access is first stable release, ergo, you buy *copy of the game*, you play starting with gamma;

2) There are three multiplayer modes - 'open play', 'solo' and 'private group'. They all share background simulation and persistent universe part of the game, and players with their actions feed information to systems which then create feedback loop, you just don't meet other people if playing solo or meet only members of private group if playing in private group.

There will be single player *offline* mode but it will be separate thing and you won't be able to move between offline and online.

The Release-Version on the website IS the Gamma! The "Final Version" is the Boxed/Steam/Whatsoever Release. (To the STEAM-Haters: Not sayin ther will be a STEAM Version)

so does this mean you can play in solo play, get a sweet ship + upgrades and a few million credits.. and then take all that into open play? not sdaying solo will be any easier than open...

Yes, yes you can.

As a newbie, would you consider that a potential exploit?

EDIT: newbie comment accidental as I thought this last post was from the OP. My bad.

There are two styles of single player.

Single player offline (no access to shared galactic simulation data)

Single player online (galactic simulation affects you but no other players encountered)

As it stands you won't be able to swap between single player offline and online modes.

You will be able to swap between single player online and multi player online. Not sure if limits will be placed on doing this frequently or not.

For completeness there are also private groups you can create or join.

I didn't think that was the case, but looking at the store page for the pre order it says " Elite: Dangerous will be available once the Standard Beta phase is completed."

My understanding as been that gamma was more like a "final phase beta" and not "final release"

can keep the noobie haha, i havnt played the game yet, and i dont know if i ever even played a full game of a space sim (only free trials/demos).. but this will be the one when gamma hits. But i WILL be playing in open play only,

"it'd be a heck of a waste of space if it was just us"

Fakt is: Everyone who pre-ordered the game can paticipate the gamma-phase befor, with final-release, the game might become accessible via other distributions.
David B. mentioned this in multible YT-Interviews and it might be also in the newsletters

Yes, You can switch from Online Solo to Online Private group to Online All with the same character. Offline is totally seperate.

Read about it here, the Design Discussion forum (archived for us since only Kickstart/Alpha members can post there).

Some people  can't stand the idea of people having this choice, and are on a constant troll campaign to demonizes the Online Solo option, add barriers / penalties to it, and try to get it removed; so they can force you to be an easy target in their game. Don't fall for it, its like someone selling you fake "parking passes" the first day at school.
