Gamma access question

In Dev Diary #7, David Braben said that there will be a period between Beta and Release called "Gamma" where kickstarter backers would have access to the full (as yet unreleased) game.

Any ideas as to whether or not that literally means backers who pledged during the 2 months of the Kickstarter Campaign, or is it anyone that pledged before the 6th of Dec, or is it anyone that has forked over 30 odd quid at any point?

The term "KickStarter Backer" implies having backed during the campaign.

BUT as all backer rewards were available all the way to the closing of the Backers' App, I'd reckon that the Gamma access encompasses all who backed the Game until that.

Would be nice if FD would confirm how it really goes.

most likely anyone who has forked out thirty odd quid or more, if i was just restricted to those that backed during the KS that that would exclude those who have only just bought the alpha, can you imagine the uproar if they didnt get the gamma having paid out £200 bucks?

well a very good question. gamma could be seen (based on other games bd frequently mentions) as a prolonged beta. so you pay until gold (full retail release) for beta access (in this case called gamma, as beta proper was already sold to others :D )

it is quite lulzy all that ;)

Alpha and Beta automatically include Gamma, just as Alpha includes both Betas and Beta1 also includes Beta2.

In my opinion, all the backers will play the gamma. Kickstarter, old store and also the backers of the new store who took a beta. I think also that those who just took the commercial game in pre-order, will play also the gamma. Perhaps pre-order will be always sold during the gamma ?

The pledge to own the game from the KS was cheaper than £30, many people will have got that.

If you just buy the standard game for £35 this will be the Gamma phase as well.

It says on that page :-

Elite: Dangerous
Be the first to get your hands on the full game!

Pre-order Elite: Dangerous to have a download of the game available as soon as its released! Elite: Dangerous will be available once the Standard Beta phase is completed.

As DB said on one of the Dev Diaries, it will be fully released but you have to think of it as a Gamma release like Minecraft did. As in, it will be the full version but there will still be perfecting going on.

So I can't image the £35 version won't be what he's talking about here.

It can not be more clear
