Gankers… a serious question

Took my new Cutter to Sol yesterday, primarily to see the Voyager Probes…saw another CMDR was there, dropped an o7 in chat. He interdicted me, and I can only assume his Anaconda was fully engineered, as he took down my shield and disabled my drive within seconds…
I know, “iF yOu PlAy In OpEn YoU hAvE tO eXpEcT pLaYeR iNtErAcTiOn” but what do players like that accomplish? Only driving people into Solo, or worst yet, not playing Elite…because we really need that now…

Ship go boom, doesn't really get more complicated than that. Sol is a hotspot as well due to being a popular system.

Should it be possible for Sol be a ganking hotspot whilst being high security and the seat of the Federation government? Probably not, but the game isn't designed for NPCs (including system security) to be a credible threat, so best watch yourselves out there Cmdrs. Get those shields and hull engineered and be prepared to shoot back or high wake.

i think at least a minimal communication should be happening before attacking. you can still contact other pvpers to kill him or to guard you.
This.

If the attacker doesn't open communications, I do.

If I receive no response, then it's straight to my block list.

Ever tried typing, whilst lining up an intediction whilst simultaneously evading an intediction fro sys sec/ other players? That's a lot of things to do at once.

Although I take your point that if the person trying to interdict you has no interest in any conversation before, during or afterwards, the whole thing is a rather boring exercise.

Engineer your ships and resist.
Don't fly in open till you do.
Open only promises gank and other pvp. But you need ships that can withstand an attack.
That's why l play open only. I may not be good. But my ships are.
And they carry me.
Not lost one yet and I've been ganked dozens of times.

Some humans like being a jerk. It's as simple as that, but they will typically answer that this is within the rules of the game, or that IRL they are really a nice person. I reserve the right to doubt that.

If you haven't done so already, fit a couple of Point Defenses to your Cutter. The reason why your shield dropped so quickly was probably a torpedo (with reverberating cascade engineering). Some say that a PD is not enough to take down a torpedo, but it seems to work for me. Another option is to run away from torpedos. They are quite slow, but you need to be aware of them, and honestly I wouldn't know how to spot one coming straight at me. I leave that to the PDs.

Generally, I only fly in open when I'm in the mood for fighting the "jerks". Otherwise, solo. That is kind of a shame, but these days I mostly play open. That's the only way to learn how to defend yourself, and after a while (and many rebuys) you start enjoying it. 🔫:alien:

Point defense is next on my list…he was firing pack hounds

A good tactic that gankers hate... Is reverski.
Slap it in reverse keep that sucker on your nose and let rip targeting power plant. Sooner or later he will break... turn and try to get around or boost behind you....then at this point simply boost away high wake your gone.
