Gas giant rings

I am a gamma supporter so i didn't get to play the game yet, but i have viewed a lot of videos. Here in our own solar system we have several planets with rings, but of course saturn's rings trump all. And those are mainly not made out of rocky asteroids, but of ice! So it would be nice if at least some planet rings would also be made out of ice. Simple change of texture should do the trick.

I think Frontier is doing a great job so far, just wanting to help making it even more realistic (with little effort).

Welcome to the forum.

With Frontier's attention to detail I'm sure they will be on top if it.

Hopefully we will get to see soon. :D

HI Pyrion,

You know, I spent some time in game last night just looking at the galaxy map.

I hadn't really had a good look at it before.

The amount of star systems in that map is just mind boggling, it blows me away that these will all be in the game, what is even more amazing is that when you zoom out, you can see that you were only looking at a tiny 2cm x 2cm section!.

I will have a bet that there are some more impressive rings out there to be found! :)

I will wait for the mining ship that discovers a ring system of pure gold!

And the next planet out having diamonds orbiting it.

Yea and the next ring system will consist of fluffy bunnies :)

Naw, just wanted a bit more realism. But of course, rocks are plausible, just not what we see at saturn.

Pyrion Flax?

I think we've only seen a small morsel of what's to come in this galaxy. Once they fix the contact binary stuff, and texture up all the different planet types it'll be good. Also they are hand controlling 160k systems - basically these are all based on accurate star charts so Frontier can allow their artists to go hog wild on creating planets and systems

There you go. Now off you scamper to the starmap to find it and set course when possible :)

I hope they make some of these exotic type planets and features in the game.

I want to be able to discover new things. I mean we'll have 40,000 people all exploring so I mean you are going to run out of things to find but the universe has a LOT of building materials out there !

Just think you could pretty much try and make up something out of each of the periodic table, plus then all the geology different types of rock and naturally occurring chemicals that could happen.

They could even throw in a dune planet with spice :)

But I think they are still far away from all that.

The rings of Saturn are still a great mistery to me.

They says that are made of 'particles' of icewater... so i wonder what we should see once you go near (very near) to them.

Honestly i am a little surprised of the elite dangerous version (but it's very spectacular).. i wonder if we can consider it a truly possibility or just an hypotetical idea of what it should be.

Cmdr Percy Percy: I've done it, my Lord! I've discovered a planetary ring of gold! Pure gold!

Cmdr Blackadder: You have? Show me!

Cmdr Percy: [takes lid off cargo pod, and Percy and Blackadder are bathed in a green glow] Behold!

Cmdr Blackadder: Percy... it's green.

Cmdr Percy: Yes, my Lord!

Cmdr Blackadder: Now, look, Percy, I don't mean to be pedantic or anything, but the colour of gold... is gold. That's why it's called gold. What YOU have discovered, if it has a name, is some... Green.

Cmdr Percy: [removes lump of Green from cargo pod) Oh, Cmdr Blackadder... can it be true? That I hold here, in my mortal hand, a nugget of purest Green?

Cmdr Blackadder: Yes indeed, Percy, except that it's not really a nugget but more of a splat.

Cmdr Percy: Yes, my Lord. A splat today, but tomorrow, who knows, or dares to dream...

It'd be a rocky moon or planetoid that got too close and broke up, Earth probably had a similar ring system about 4 billion years ago.

Gold is only valuable because its rare! If you found a ring system of pure gold better keep it a secret, if it gets out the bottom will drop out and gold will be worthless.

If you do find a ring system of gold you can tell me I can keep a secret.

The proto-moon you mean? That would have been a hell of sight...you know, once the surface had re-solidified. ;)
