Gather on foot mats without fighting?

Ok, i have a stupid question - is there a way to obtain all mats needed for suits upgrade without fighting?
I play in VR and my keyboard and mouse are out of comfortable reach, so at the moment i use HOTAS for on foot (which actually works quite well if you are not fighting).
My preferred game style is exploration so i don't have problems using HOTAS on foot because there is no need for shooting on a planet somewhere out in the black.
However i would really like to be able to upgrade my Artemis suite before going away from the Bubble again.

So, is it possible to gather materials without much risk of anyone shooting at me or i need to ditch the VR and HOTAS and use Apex for transportation until i gather everything needed?

Its possible but a lot of missions have a random chance of scavengers showing up. You can usually see them before they see you and turn around if you want to avoid combat. Might just take a while to get the mats but the restore power missions are usually safe and have tons of mats laying around unguarded.

You can also visit planetary wreck sites and gather mats from those, if you pick the low threat ones you should be ok.
