I'm struggling to work this out.

Are we basically obliged to fight stuff now to get mats, or are we also to find them in shipwrecks too?

I'm getting really confused here.

Different mats come from different sources. Usually the tooltip on the mat in the crafting screen will tell you roughly where to get it. Some require blowing up combat ships or cargo ships, some just need you to scan things, some you'll find in space or on planets. You kinda have to shop around if you want everything.

I was worried that would be the case.

Does seem FD have decided to force people into doing things they don't want to...

So much for "playing your way..."

Materials/data can come from most parts of gameplay now. So track down what materials you are looking for and what has a chance to drop them. Or just play normally and eventually you will have materials to upgrade stuff.

Materials came come from mining, surface exploration, POIs, USS, defeated enemies, missions and from a few other places. Data can come from scanning all kinds of things so do it as much as you can.

They are NOT forcing you. Modifications are optional. You can still play your own way with out mods.

Cognitive distortions are simply ways that our mind convinces us of something that isn't really true. These inaccurate thoughts are usually used to reinforce negative thinking or emotions

I paid good money for engineers. Real, solid cash.

Are you blind to that fact?

The fact that a huge feature of the product so many people paid for is locked behind a massive wall of gather this-&-that... Do you seriously not see where I am coming from?

I paid for engineers... They never said in the beginning that I'd need to invest inhuman amounts of time into getting access to a premium feature. Frankly I'd call it false advertising.

Did they tell you would have to invest huge amounts of time to get Elite ranks and the most expensive ships?

You PAID for the right to play the game they created, nowhere in that agreement was there any entitlement to what you thought you were 'owed' afterwards. And quite frankly people have already gotten several rank 5 mods already so you are blowing the huge time investment thing out of the water too.

Then they should never have said "play your way".

Oh, FYI, I'm only trying to upgrade a bloody Cobra, and I'm not interested a damn bit in big ships or elite ranks.

And, just to completely screw up your weak argument, actually yes, when the game first came out, we did know time would be required to reach Elite ranks & expensive ships.

For Horizons however, they decided to make that clear only months after it released.

Do the maths.

I'm slowly beginning to wonder if Cloud Imperium have paid a shed load of people with a shed load of money to troll the FD forums since 2.1 dropped.......

I guess screw up your weak argument they did say it would require you to find materials and find things to make modifications.

You do the maths.

Or maybe a lot of people are sick of grinding.

Don't give me this "don't grind" garbage.

I'm gonna' get on with it, but I ain't gonna' do so quietly.

Quite frankly I feel the whole system is a joke.

You do the maths.

They didn't say we would have to re-roll the same bloody module dozens of time though... I'm all for looking for materials, but having to do it as many times as you have to, in order hit level 5? C'mon man, can't you see why a lot of people think that's daft?

You can play your way. It doesn't mean you'll get every shiny toy you want just for existing.

I hate flying 200-300 LY. It bores the hell out of me. But if I want an Eng Mod, guess what - there's not an Eng in my system. I'll have to start jumping all over the place. Want the mod? Do the work. Or don't. Play however you like.

That's it, I do work. Then a dice roll takes it way, and I have to start all over again.

Like I said I'll trod' through, but I'm damn well gonna' protest about the stupidity behind it all.

Well, that's a different complaint than the one you started the thread with.

You complained about having to source materials, not the RNG modification routine.

I agree with you on the RNG, btw. Unfortunately, Michael and Sandro think it's fun. Of course, DEV can also give themselves whatever toys and credits they like. So they don't have to play the same game we do...

It seems that someone not even know what is fun.
