Newcomer / Intro gathering Mats on-foot

I have recently tried my hand at some on-foot scavenging. I have been visiting abandoned ports so that I don't have to deal with combat much, if at all (some abandoned ports are not abandoned).

I have been seeing discrepancies associated with what Mats I discover while in my SRV and those that I can find when I'm on-foot. The image shows one such example. I have seen this with several other Mats.
Basically, I see a number of goodies shown on my contacts list and on the radar screen in the SRV and cannot find them to gather when on-foot. This isn't a matter of them being in a locker or something else. I searched thoroughly for the one shown in the image included below. There were no obstacles in the way there. I couldn't even 'see it' when on-foot.
When I get back in my SRV, convinced that I'm not going to get the Mat(s), I'm taunted because they're right there on the SRV's contact list, on its radar, and shown if I 'look' in their direction.

Just another quirk?

Can't say I've ever had that, unless it was a planetary POI and it was under terrain. But then I haven't had to gather mats for months.

There are a couple of lockers in that direction in that PWR building, shame there was no pic showing they were empty, because otherwise I'm gonna suspect that.

I use the srv a lot to spot those hard to find mats.
Point the srv in the direction of the mat, park it against
the wall and mark the distance.
Then disembark and walk inside , on your hud you can see the distance from your srv, walk in the direction of your srv and match it with the marker distance,
Look around and it will be there.

Plus, ofc, a Scrambler is only worth 5, so there's little point in picking it up or worrying where it is. Now if it was a Weapon Component or Tungsten Carbide :sneaky:

You need a sharp pair of eyes to spot a lot of the stuff scattered around. It is not really worth the time and effort hunting for the odd nice item. Move on and pick other stuff up.

Ship's and SRV' scanners will always show any materials in range (which range is rather small, but much better than None)
Our suits are lacking any form of scanners that can pick up materials - it would be nice to have it, but well... 🤷‍♂️

I sometimes use a SRV to "scan" for materials as a way to "speed up" material gathering, but most of the time i just nail anything that's not bolted on so using the SRV would actually delay things.

Ps next to the lockers in the power building is a canister in the corner.
Bet the scrambler was on top of it.

Precisely this 👆

never happened to me to have a material on the SRV scanner and not be able to actually find it - but i did have a "in the wild" cases (read, planetary mission POIs) where the material was some meter dug in the soil - so unreachable.

if there is no threat in the area take youre time looking every locker table top etc. if the power is off turn it on if you have a power reg /e breach handy that way you can get the data as well.

I have seen mats sunk below the surface they're supposed to be on. They are generally unreachable when they spawn that way.

I did a restore power mission a little while ago and some of the mats in buildings were sunk partially into the scenery.

I've targeted an item on a Kiosk then looking for it I find it appears to be inside a wall looking at both sides. Only happened once.
