Engineers Gathering "stuff" not worth it

Hey guys,

So i spent almost 12 hours the other day hunting around on planetary surfaces and USS's and various other things to find stuff to upgrade my systems with via engineers. While i'm glad they've upped the materials capacity to 600 they need to do this with data too, as i quickly maxed all of the 200 space for that. But i really feel personally that after 12 hours i should have been able to come up with at least one or two small upgrades to my systems. After about three rolls of the dice which is all i could manage, the upgrades i managed to get were absolutely awful and i gave up in the end, because i couldn't face another twelve hours hunting, only to be given a pittance back. I don't expect everything to be super amazing every time, but some reward for not an inconsiderable amount of gaming hours would be nice. I think the engineers need to be tweaked so there's at least a 50% higher chance or getting something much better and perhaps a greater abundance of useful things on planets and in space.

Thank you

Try going back to just playing the game and let the collection take a back seat. I got a lot Rez hunting and occasionally dropping a collector limpet.

If you make it a grind, it becomes a grind. If you play the game as before and occasionally target an ingredient it enhances the gameplay.

Interesting. When 2.1 dropped I already had a meta-alloy so unlocked Farseer and pinned the grade 1 FSD blueprint. I haven't particularly been resource hunting but I have enough for one roll of the dice. I was going to wait till I had enough for a couple of rolls just in case. But it sounds like I better not get my expectations up. Good job I'm enjoying finding my combat level with the new AI!

what kind of upgrades did you try? i still didn't had one upgrade which was worse than the original modul.

but yeah, after spending 2 nights going for level 5 upgrades, i'm now back to playing the game and collecting on the go. and see - i have another 4 upgrades to make.

the level 1 upgrades i have seen are all very postive, as are the level 5 upgrades.

Ok, maybe all hope is not lost then. I think I'll avoid the grind though and just enjoy 'living' in space and doing stuff with a little pop off to an engineer every now and then. The way its meant to be played? That's a good tag line, sure nobody has used it before...

I had to dump my level 1 upgrades on all of my multi-cannons because of the jitter introduced caused my hit chance to drop tremendously unless I am point-blank... the 11% damage increase was no where near worth it because of this. I have rolled the dice 5 times and still haven't scored win on the wheel of fortune either.. [down]. What is worse, I mined for Praesodynium for hours, only to get blown up in my Asp Explorer before I could use them.. Of course, since I wanted to use this material for my Corvette, there currently is no way to transfer that cargo over, so it would have been pointeless anyways... a huge waste of time and I will lose my Rating 5 this cycle.

On a good note, the devs gave me back my credits I lost from my Corvette blowing up. I am gald they understand and now I am not giving up, but patiently waiting for the hotfixes coming soon...

This is the single most useful post I've seen on the subject. I didn't realise the rep level would be cyclical and there's no way I'm going to put the effort in to gain the level, just to watch it wind down when I'm off out in the wild black yonder. Also, as there's no way to tfr upgrades between ships, that pretty much kills the whole thing - I like the setup I have and don't want to change anything out to add cargo space - it's an Asp Explorer, not an Asp Freighter. No engineers for me, then.

Thanks for posting - you've saved me hours of useless, wasted effort.

maybe go for some other L1 upgrades?
