So I'm considering (ie. started planning) a group that calls itself "The Order of Marlin Duval", modelling itself almost like the Revanites in the Star Wars lore (and from SWTOR), although less cult-like, and more movement/secret society-like. The leader (the "Harbinger of Marlin Duval") and members ("Knights of Marlin Duval") would be kept secret, they would operate in imperial space but their reach would be able to extend across known space. Their primary goals would be as follows...
1. Promote the vision of Achenar and her colonies that Marlin Duval promoted: representative democracy (The restoration of the Council of Achenar), peace and peaceful resolutions to problems. (For more info on Marlin Duval from the official lore, read here. http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Empire#History)
2. Sabotage/Subterfuge against anyone who threatens the people who live in the empire
3. When possible, intervene discreetly in humanitarian issues, such as slavery, or particularly desperate military struggles, guided by morality and operating in utter secrecy.
4. Infiltration of the upper echelons of imperial society/pilots federation supporters.
5. Promoting roleplaying in the game whenever possible.
6. Developing a network of independent or imperial factions as the leaders of systems in political struggles. Also, helping democratic governments take over in systems.
7. Public activity in the political sphere against negative influences within the Empire, such as Senator Torval and the Imperial Slavers Association.
8. Building a hub network of systems in secrecy that we would operate out of, similar to the Mercs of Mikunn.
9. Corresponding anonymously with Galnet
I think a faction like this would fit nicely into the lore and mix things up in the Empire, as well as help promote interesting roleplaying between player groups. The Order of Marlin Duval would play a cryptic role that I think many players would find interesting.
