Gauging Interest: PvP Event

There's more than just a little work involved in setting up a decent event, so I thought to start by gauging interest here.

Here's my intent:

I am in the planning phase of a ladder tournament, open to any who wish to participate. It will be a single-elimination PvP-to-the-death competition, held (at least in this incarnation) in stock Sidewinders (They're cheap, it levels the playing field, and no one feels too bad being blown up in one. If this event is successful, then I will organize other events in the future).

I will also be looking for, in addition to participants, a few folk to assist with recording the event.

The rules are simple:

1. Absolutely talk about the event.
2. Stock Sidewinders only.
3. Only two participants to a fight.
4. Only one fight at a time.
5. If you wake out or disconnect, the fight is over.
6. Spectators and film crew are not valid targets.
7. Outside interference will result in disqualification.

Consideration will be given on a case-by-case basis for things like server failures or ISP failures.

I've not yet decided on a location, but have a few locations in mind - all of which are anarchy systems. I also plan on hosting this as a Private Server event, to limit exposure to outside influence.

If you are interested in participating, either as a fighter or as film crew, let me know. The more interest, the more likely this is to happen.

I will put every effort in to ensuring times and locations are suitable to all participants. We're doing this for fun, and perhaps for some reknown, and who knows what the future will bring.

I'm not very good at PvP but Sideys only I'd give it a go.

Just make sure its in a private group permission only then you'll stop griefers and people who want to ruin the event.

Good luck getting this going!

Potentially interested. These events sound like fun, but until now I've always been outside of the bubble when they happen.

A few questions though, largely just out of curiosity: In this context does "stock" mean unengineered, or literally as it is when you first purchase it? Will you be enforcing a basic standard of sportsmanship? What do you do about hostile NPCs when everybody is in stock sideys, do the film crew bring real combat ships and double as security?

I am happy to participate, even if it is just to give other players some target practice!

When you say stock sidey, as in factory fresh no A rated modules and ship issued pulses, or A rated modules, no engineering and whatever weapon you can squeeze into the ship?

I'd do the sidey thing if it werent just stock.. So basically fitting the sidey to anything thats available pre engineers, and no PP stuff.

i.e. a rated thrusters, gimbals, missiles, etc..

By "Stock" I mean right fresh out of the shipyards, just the way it comes.

No engineering, no swapping modules around, just what comes with it out of the vending machine.

The idea here is to eliminate all other advantages, except for raw pilot skills. It is also to encourage folks to participate. Losing a stock Sidewinder isn't going to make a mark in most folks budgets. Losing an A-rated Cutter on the other hand...

As the event will be held in Anarchy space, bothersome NPC's should be at a minimum. Additionally, the location will be cleared and secured before the match begins.
Security will be provided by event staff in the off chance any uninvited guests show up.

And I plan to hold more of these events, if this one is successful, including other stock ship events, fighters-only events, SRV events, and a Less Than 500k event (any ship you can build for less than 500k).

Spread the word and help make this happen!
