CQC Gave CQC a try today--won't be making that mistake again.

Seriously FD, you think its fun to hand someone a knife and throw them into a plasma cannon fight?

Why are you throwing newbies into a tank with sharks?

No wonder almost no one plays this crap.

Oh look, a bunch of newb scrubs versus one high level player. I wonder how this will turn out?

SURPRISE ENDING!! (/sarcasm)

Plasma Repeater can be easily defeated by spiraling.

It doesnt take any time at all to unlock things either, CQC is pure piloting skill. All a higher level does is allow you to be more adaptive to what the enemies are using by giving more loadout slots.

Meh, I'm level 4 and always coming third, and I score kills against multi-prestiged level 40s, not trying to boast but its not like high level players have invincibility or anything, they've just had more practice and a bit more versatility in loadout. Just practice more and beat them.

I play the team based game not the free for all, as I find the match maker seems to be a bit better there.

Plays.
Comes 2nd.
Complains.

I agree the matchmaking isn't ideal (have played with that particular player also). Get a grip though, you came 2nd! :p

I feel for you OP. Personally don't bother with CQC myself for various reasons. Also understand your point, it's been made by plenty of other people in the feedback section.

However, whenever anyone makes a thread that's critical of anything in this game you should be prepared to pull on your tin hat and duck for cover. You know you're going to be attacked in large numbers by those that probably don't even bother to attempt to grasp your point. That's the way it goes in here.

If I had my way new contestants would have fully equipped ships and as they ranked up they'd lose equipment until the best were bare-fist fighing in shieldless ships as a badge of honour.
Ooh yeah this would be good!
There was a mod for QuakeWorld back in the day that did this: everyone started out with all weapons and lost them as they got more kills.
Your last kill, to win the round, had to be with the axe.
It was great fun to play, but I don't think I ever played a game of it where anybody won :)
Can't remember the name of it though...

CQC is like ED in that rank is not really a measure of skill it is more like a measure of persistence.
I have sometimes played it on my wife's account and I have to say that I don't find matchmaking inequalities to be a problem because there are so many different ways to play.

I can't see a point to CQC, aside your rank being useful for missions (that's if FD implement this aspect into missions come 2.1) and access to an in-galaxy system. Even though the commander is level 48 and won, it doesn't mean anything. Yes, matchmaking is flawed or non-existent. Yes, he may be a good pilot. Yes, he may have access to "better" equipment. But eventuall everyone who plays CQC will rank up to Elite, even if they pootle about dodging scenery. That's what I do, while taking the odd pot shot to alleviate my boredom! :)

Cqc is not my thing.

I deal with this by the simple expedient of "not playing it".

same i read the "arena" posts if they appear in this section but never bother to post in any until now, as above I have no interest in it, i looked at it once and thought not for me. Each to their own and all that.

Hashishin happens to be one of the best cqc pilots Ive ever come across. I can hardly best him, or Hun Nimrod
Even if he was flying a standard level 1 loadout he would likely win, its all down to skill, but better matchmaking would be appreciated

Was inspired to give CQC/Arena a go (not tried it since beta). Similar matchmaking to OP's - it was still fun (hard work too...) even though I got whooped. Playing with higher rank players forces you to improve - though I'm not sure what advantage a turkey shoot of < level 10s is to those guys, but hey...
