Welcome to the Drabble contest. Ignore that foul sulphurous smell. That plate I had of brussells sprouts drizzled with a hot curry sauce were delicious.
Well done Edit the Hut. It's him what won it last week. And he chose "Volcano"

01 - Edith_The_Hutt - Hot Persuit
The SRV sped across the lava field’s thin crust, wheels smoking gently in the heat. Behind, two sentry drones skylined over the ridge and opened fire. Swerving to avoid plasma bolts from behind and bolides from above Chen pressed his Scarab into a nearby cave, hit the accelerator and prayed there was another end.
The skimmers followed; hampered by the tight walls and low roof they made easy pickings for the SRV’s turret.
Re-emerging, Chen recalled his Cobra and surveyed the ash-strewn landscape. Evidence of his crime would soon be entombed in fresh rock.
“It’s a good day,” he smiled.
02 - Frank - Nectar Points
Pah, terraforming! I could walk out the atmosphere.
The tourguides offered me special climbing gear, but I had my own pressure suit. The extra weight wouldn't hurt under this gravity. Well, not as much as I'd imagined it would. It still felt an achievement. I stood atop the summit and looked down at the serene splendour of the luscious green Martian landscape contrasting the red sky.
I turned around to face the silent bustle of the tourist market behind me. One of the stalls sold T-Shirts stating "My parents climbed Olympus Mons and all I got was this lousy T-shirt."
03 - Steph - Up one side and down the other [ or Yoda's description of a trip up a volcano ]
The climb looked easy if you ignored the fierce heat and sulphurous odours irritating nose and lung. The vent would be easily reached and the experimental alloy could be tested. That was the plan at least. Little did I know that the descent would be much harder than the ascent.
Ascent the than harder much be would descent the that know I did little. Least at plan the was that tested be could alloy experimental the and reached easily be would vent the. Lung and nose irritating odours sulphurous and heat fierce the ignored you if easy looked climb the.
04 - Listeri69 - Planetwide Devistation....
The sulfurous fumes piled out skywards,
the smell of rotten eggs bathed the air turning it green in the process.
All people had been evacuated from the planet as the eruption continued unabated,
it wouldn't be long before the whole planet would be rendered uninhabitable. Wildlife lay dead and dying at the roadside,
most killed by the initial pyroclastic flow. the once densely forested areas lay flattened and burnt, yet still the eruption continued.
A molten sticky substance began to ooze across the landscape threatening the one ship that remained,
'Better out than in' Simoof grimaced as he pushed again
05 - Alien - Please Give Generously
This is Vole. Vole cannot walk. Everyday Vole is reduced to a life where he cannot explore the stars, he cannot buy his weekly bottle of Centauri Mega Gin to drink from his Hutton mug. Vole cannot enjoy his Deuringas Truffles because he can't get to the shops.
Just two credits per month would change Vole's life. Two credits would buy Vole a walking stick. Two credits would fill his mind with joy and make him smile again, make him go "Oh" in joy instead of sadness.
All you need to do, is remember these three words: Vole Cane Oh.
06 - Galactic Midden - Etymological Tale
Gonny's eruption was intense. The planet named after it's founder and famous missionary The Prime Knowdaehat was experiencing what many inhabitants would describe as "a Sign". Personally I'd call it more of a meltdown given the mantle's extreme temperature, but those devout miners always thought they knew best.
It was 3207 when the trade route finally gave out; 20 years of destruction having returned the rock to a melting pot of fire. Many survivors had wisdom to share, "riches to rags" said the spiteful neighbours, "an angry god" said the victims. Traders tell the tale of Gonny Knowdaehat to admonish.
07 - moose666 - Not as bad as Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
Psykokow and Alien were visiting Earth, and had chosen Iceland for an overnight visit.
Before they could land, ATC warned them of increased volcanic activity. and advised them to minimise flying time.
"That makes no sense" said kow, "theres no intakes for the crap to get into".
"The correct NOMenclature for crap coming out of a volcano" insisted Alien "is Tephra"
Alien pointed at a peak with smoke billowing out. "Oh look, its Eyjafjallajökull blowing its top"
"Eyaaaaa, wha now?"
Alien grinned, "Its a hell of a NOM de plume, innit?"
And thats when Psykokow threw Alien into the volcano.
08 - RoyalHankey - The most wonderful and deadliest thing in the Universe
A volcano is one of the most beautiful picturesque places to visit.
Space tourist companies often schedule holidays near such places.
But with beauty there is danger.
Earthquakes, eruptions, Lava and explosions.
In the case of Mount Fredikson in Laphria in the Artemus System.
726,592 people died in 3006, 27,625 was all tourists.
The first bolt of lava shot out from the top.
It hit Hemingburg Spaceport in Yeradmen
This was the only escape for many.
The only ship to take off was flown by Simoof,
This was just milliseconds before the fatal blow..............................
But the explosion also killed Simoof
09 - Simoof - The Winds of War.
He had traveled 8k light years.
His Orca was t. 3% hull remaining and most systems non-operational. Why had the techs advised to power-cycle thrusters whilst in supercruise?
But enough, here, now, he floated at the table awaiting the infamous Zero-G Volcano curry.
The smells circulating had invigorated his appetite.
He again checked his tether. It was good. he could just reach out and barely touch the walls of the domed eating chamber.
His food arrived. It tasted ok. He was disappointed. Just OK. Then his guts rumbled. Then he experienced the full glory.
The tether strained under his thrust.
10 - Cmdr-Wotherspoon - To Those Who Disrespect The Space Loach
The Commander surveyed the airless moon from his high vantage point with something bordering on disdain. There were craters for sure, but there had always been craters.
“Doesn’t look any different than it did in 2.1”, he remarked dryly. “I don’t see any of those ‘fumerole’ things old Loachy was talking about”.
The rumbling began very gently, but built rapidly.
“You know”, added the Commander thoughtfully, “in retrospect it might have been a mistake to set down on the top of that big conical mountain”.
He was not entirely surprised to find himself, moments later, back at the rebuy screen.
11 - 0x666c697473 - Tempers Erupt
Hanging over the hellish bubbling mass from the SRV bay, wasn't my first choice of entertainment for the evening. But, when there’s a high stakes bet to win and celebrity slaver to annoy, it's worth the heat rash.
The scumbag's scarab skirted the crater and I pondered the morality of sending it, and him, into the lava.
Six galnet drones swarmed around, showcasing the "hero" adventurer next to spurting liquid rock.
Finally, word from the cockpit, "broadcast live! GO! GO!"....
So, with my protest holograms alight,
I yelled my objections and bungee jumped into volcano’s vent and the news cycle.

13 - insanephoton - Mods on the rocks
The Orca escaped the erupting volcano in the nick of time. The Mods looked on in horror as lava engulfed their old lair.
'What happened?' asked Midden.
'Simoof escaped and activated the self destruct mechanism' Teejay explained.
'I guess we'll have to find a new moderators lair'
'Yep'
'Does it have to be a volcano? You know the problems we had with the last place and I worry about the risk of pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.'
'Unfortunately Mister Brookes is very insistent that it has to be in a volcano'
'What about an ice volcano?'
'Yeah, sure why not? That would be cool.'
14 - phong - Hot Stuff
She hung in the doorway, her towel robe swinging open slightly to reveal the wyncyette peignoir beneath.
'Soo,you're from ,Lieutenant.How deliciously..louche!'
He caught the hint of sparkle in her eyes, the slight lift at the corners of her mouth that showed him she was merely teasing.
'Yes Ma'am,there was a lot of debate about changing the name some years back, but there didnt seem to be much point what with it being the six hundredth anniversary of the silence, and all.So when contact was re-established it had all been pretty much decided.'he smouldered.
15 - James Tompset - Smelters for Tumors
Problem Child sped across desolation and lava flows, Jim had seen his share of crappy backwaters, but nothing rivalled the horrors of CC6.
The volcanism of the planet provided it's colonists with a cheap way to smelt metals, but at a terrible cost to life.
Requesting clearance on approach; a wet voice coughed back his bay number.
Nearly all colonists on CC6 had cancer from the atmosphere; the company's Nanomeds were keeping them on their feet, just. Dead men walking.
Jim stared at the lumpen, wheezing colonists shambling to refuel his ship and marvelled the suicide rate was only 40%.
