Gearing up

Just getting ready for my first exploration expedition. My humble Cobra Mk III just needs a big fuel scoop and an A rated FSD and I'm good to go. Jump range won't be great but that's fine.

Can't wait!!

Reminds me of my early days, exploring in my Cobra Mk III!
Hopefully you'll collect the funds for your remaining upgrades (especially the big fuel scoop can cost a pretty penny) soon, exploring is one of the most fun things you can do in Elite: Dangerous!

I've found a system close to I Bootis, LT 350 or something (can't remember) that gives those 'destroy a generator' missions for >500K a pop. They tend to be undefended by anything other than a couple of turrets so it's fairly stress free cash at the minute.

The Cobra III actually makes for a very good explorer. The jump range is average, but if you mod it up via the engineers it can easily get up to 35+ lys on a fully outfitted but lightweight Cobra III, which is really good. The ship is also a blast to fly around planet surfaces with that very fast boost speed, and it looks sharp as a tack when landed, and being a small ship you can land her in lots of places that the bigger ships just can’t.

You just can't beat the Mk III. I'm in the 14th month of a circumnavigation in a stock, unengineered Cobra (my trip started in 1.3 so engineers weren't a thing). 18,384 systems in I still love her.

Seriously. The Mk III is a capable, forgiving ship. I did my first 20 kly exploration voyage in a Mk III. The first ship to visit Sagittarius A* was a Mk III. It'll get you where you want to go, and bring you safely home again.

I'm about ready to go. Went to Founders World just to see and get a cheap(er) fuel scoop and A rated FSD.

Is it worthwhile fitting a heat sink?
