I was wondering if it would be possible or viable that fdev could implement a geforce style service to give the opportunity for existing console commander's who for what and other reason can not afford financially to play on pc. I believe not only would it alow us to have access to oddesy but would expand the game to the wider ordnance in turn increasing fdev profits. ?

Not a chance to do it for Less than nvidia allready do per month fee..

Many rivals have tried and shut down allready thats why geforce now price has remained low...
Fdev removed elite dangerous from game pass allready and did not support PS NOW which was a rival to geforce now for playing PlayStation titles direct on PC streaming fopr a monthly rental fee...

There are some left to challenge Geforce now.. which is keeping the price low on geforce now but those companies have faced legal court battles as they had skipped getting licensing from publishers to keep prices low...

The issue Fdev would face would be what nvidia allready fixed.. Fdev would have to spend shareholders money to set up server farms for a single title across the hole regions..
The Fdev games use P2P connection for multiplayer because they can avoid paying for server farms that way...
They wont even pay for servers to run the multiplayer on PC games.. .

@GraphiteGB has it right. Fdev uses P2P architecture to avoid lots of central servers. It cuts down on server costs but it brings with it a whole load of synchronisation issues. I feel ED would have been impossible for fdev to develop with the current model if they had the classic client server model.

If fdev don't want to do server farms, doing remote client farms is even less likely. If anything, fdev would be better off outsourcing that to Nvidia and negotiating for a discounted fee for players but the service wouldn't be free.

For console owners, I'd recommend transferring the commander to PC and then use the trial version of Geforce Now to see if you get the performance before you commit. I've heard good and bad things about Geforce Now and it depends on the ping between your machine and the geforce servers but it still is a valid approach to play Elite : Odyssey on a console.

Why bother when it's on Geforce Now anyway? From my calculations GFN is barely more expensive than the electricity required to run your own high end gaming PC, and if you don't already own one it's a good option.

Thank you all for the clarification I had no idea how unfeasible it would be. I have recently set up geforce through my xbox after many hours I have elite up and running unfortunately it appears my Internet speed is not up to the required speed I say that as I am getting a pixilated screen. Would any of you tech savy individuals have a remedy bar changing Internet providers. Would switching down to 720 help ?

The answer to that is to try it & see unfortunately.

Lowering the stream resolution will reduce the needed bandwidth.
If that alone is enough depends on your connection.
Also, use a lan cable instead of wlan if you have one lying around

Good point, I used to find leaving a high end PC on 24 hrs cost 50p, now it is more like 150p per day. So at £8.99/month it is LESS than the electricity cost!

OK you still need electricity for the Shield TV (don't know Wattage as yet and you know what, I Don't Care as it is tiny! I could look underneath but not bothered) or crappy 20W laptop, but that is negligible compared to 750W gaming PC.

Shop around for better Internet, I recently moved from
Sky ADSL (copper) with
67Mbps to a Full Fibre provider and now get synchronous (upload and download) 900Mbps O.M.F.G.!!!!

Mind you, GFN did run OK on 67Mbps, but anything less than 15Mbps and you will get play-ability issues (also need a fast ping IIRC).

Oh, dropping the resolution will help with the broadband demand and wired connection between your router and console will help but apart from upgrading your broadband and making sure that you don't have a provider that 'Throttles' your connection, there's not much else that can be done.

IGood Luck, I'm interested to see how you go with it.

Coincidentally, CCP has implemented something similar to your idea. They call it "Eve Anywhere." It is their own cloud service for playing Eve Online. I was surprised to see them do it as Eve is already available via GFN. Seeing how they already run one of the most sophisticated servers in the gaming business, I guess it wasn't too much trouble to jump into the cloud gaming sphere as well. Right now, Eve Anywhere is limited to Omega accounts, so I guess that is how they plan on recouping the extra overhead. Still, it was a surprise to see CCP do it on their own. As with GFN, I love it because I can play Eve on my Chromebook now either using CCPs own cloud server or GFN.

As others have said, I don't see Frontier ever doing something similar. Why would they when they can just use GFN? CCP doing it, with their deeper pockets, far greater networking expertise and beefy server architecture already in place, makes sense.
