A nice idea but there's a reason it's not been done... if you've ever been on Twitch, a room with over 50 people is crazy in the chatbox, it's just not practical

Back in my day....
We all gathered in AOL chatrooms by the hundreds, and it was perfectly manageable.
Twitch chat is crazy because the interface sucks. Type in 3 words and you've scrolled two lines. Type in a whole sentence and you scroll half the chat window. And because of that nonsense forced by the size of the window everyone types in 6 word blurbs every 5 seconds trying to communicate a complete thought in 1/8th chunks.
A station general chat would be nice.During my first few hours of play I kept sending text chat to the stations thinking it would broadcast to everyone currently docked
Is there actually a way of communicating with other players when you jump into a system without having to scan a player which is only going to be taken as a threat. I would like to jump to a spaceport and in the comms just say hello to anyone around without them thinking I am about to shoot at them.

Did the same. Would love to see it implemented. I think it would make for a pretty cool social dynamic.
Genaral Station Chat
When chatting was first implemented I tried for several weeks to start up a chat session but never got much of a response. Though one time, while SC'ing to a station, I did get a response from a Commander Backer 15**. Didn't get to much into a chat as I got interdicted shortly there after.
I've tried to start-up a chat with some people while I was sitting on the pad but haven't gotten any responses, guess they're to busy landing or taking off. A general station wide chat (text or voice) would be nice to be able to join. Just to say hi and maybe make a friend or two.
I don't know if there are many people online because of times I'm on - around 6-11 PM Chicago time (2300-0400 GMT). I would think most of the UK users have gone to bed by then. I did make a sugestion some time ago regarding player usage stats but got no feedback on it.
