General exploration

I'm new to exploration, my rank is fairly low. My question here is where a good location for some exploration and data collecting would be.
To my knowledge, Sag. A is good, but I don't like the 8 or so hours it'd take me in my ViperMKIV and I'm currently saving up for an Anaconda. My current location is Cubeo, and I'm thinking of trying for the edge of the Galaxy (I made it half-way to Sag. A on my first try and I called it quits) but I don't really know whether I'll find hundreds of brown dwarfs in a row or not.
Is the risk worth it, or am I wasting brain power?
Thanks.

For locations, Galactic Mapping thread may help lead you somewhere
8 or so hours to Sag A is only if you're racing, not exploring. Some people take weeks. If Sag A is too far, focus on The Orion Spur map. Plenty of great spots.

As for brown dwarfs, you can use the galaxy map to check star types. Check your route for them, if there are several in a row, plot a new one. Or just go jump by jump for a while until you leave the pocket. You'll never get hundreds in a row and there's no such thing as a region with only one star type. It may have a lot of non-scoopables, but there are scoopables there too, sometimes in the same system.

Scoopable star types are KGBFOAM
There are plenty of exploration guides here in the forums

Hmm, It depends, if you want cash then head left of Sag A*, there's a ton of neutron stars and black holes (fields of them!) that scan for high value. If you are above/below the galactic plain (+ or - 100 in the Z direction) you avoid most of those pesky brown dwarves :) Yes it's a long way but frankly theres not many good moneymaking exploration places outside the galactic core.

If you are after an interesting trip with lots to see I advise checking out some of the close-by stuff like Barnards Loop, VY Canis Majoris, Betelgeuse etc. (the true exploration goal varies between people, some want screenshots, some want interesting planets/features and some want money :D)

I think it's worth taking a relatively short trip for your first exploration journey (2000ly ish) Just to get your feet wet, but close enough to home to dash back if something goes wrong.

Look for something interesting on the galaxy map amd make that your 'mission' to reach.
When looking for undiscovered systems, remember to think vertically as well. Travelling up or down (relatively speaking) on the map is just as useful.

Invest in an advanced discovery scanner and detailed surface scanner, these are a must IMO.

And as stated above, go take a read of 'Nutters explorers guide'

Good luck and godspeed CMDR! o7
