General Gameplay Query

Hi All,

I started playing the beta and what a great game!

Some queries I have however if anyone wouldn't mind assisting a fellow commander:

1. What is the best way to make money? ie most money made in shortest period of time?

2. How is mining done? Is it possible in beta?

3. How far can you travel? So far I seem to only be able to visit about 5 different start systems.

1 - shoot bad guys and get bounites. Or trade

2 - not in yet

3 - that's it. You could set the supercruise and leave your ship in a random direction overnight, but you won't find a star when you arrive at anywhere.

1. The fastest way to earn money in the beginning, while you are flying Sidewinder is probably Federal Distress Signal area. You need to select side and destroy enemies. Hopefully there won't be many other CMDRs eager to destroy you if you choose the wrong side. You need to earn something about 4K Cr in order to afford a second pulse laser (2200Cr) + have something left for insurance. Then everything will be a little faster.

2. No mining in the current release.

3. Only 5 stellar systems for now.

Regarding "You need to choose a side" at the Federal Distress Area

How does one do that? When I just start shooting ships, I get nothing :)

If you go to the Eranin system (the one with Azeban station in it) open up the left panel and you'll see a list of places to go.
Scroll down that list and select the Federal Distress one. When you're outside the station and not mass locked hit the Supercruise button and steer yourself towards it.
Drop out of SC when you're less than 200km from the area and doing less then 200km/s.
When you're in fly towards the capital ship, select your faction as the guys said and then shoot the red bits.
Avoid shooting the green bits, they're on your side.
Don't be too surprised when other players (hollow triangles or squares) from the other side come and shoot you first.

If you're playing with the basic Sidewinder you can zap a few adversaries and if you die it won't cost you anything to get a new ship exactly the same as the old one. You'll eventually make some money and get better.
