yeah the more I think about it the better this idea sits with me
Imagine a huge ship going back and forth from the bubble to Colonia
It can do 1000Ly jumps, but only 1 or 2 a day.. (that way it would take 22 days / 11 days to get to Colonia and then the same back) - this would defiantly give the perception that the distance to Colonia is vast. And also make actually going to Colonia yourself still the fastest way there.
The ship should go via the fuel stop routers to Colonia
Maybe have a community goal to build the ship, then every so often a community goal to help the ship if it gets into difficulty on a journey (but obviously not to often)
The ship should not be standard faction owned though (fed, al and emp) , it could be pilot federation owned as a controlling faction, that way its neutral.
It would also need to be fairly well defended.
It's purpose
To resupply Colonia with parts, food, machinery, and rotate personnel to and from the bubble. But these should not really be things on the Commodities market, I'm taking parts that allows for repairs of Colonia and the ships that protect it. Pilots will have to supply the rest. It can also allow for ships to dock with it on the journey, but only for repairs and a lift to Colonia/Earth. The ship should not be spawn point if you die, those stations remain the last visited one in the bubble or Colonia.
when it comes back to the Bubble it should go to the station in either Fed, Alliance or Empire space that is closest to all factions space as possible (maybe rotating between factions) - when it arrives there should be a load of passenger missions to and from that station for people wanting to return to their homes in the bubble, and people wanting to go to Colonia for the sight seeing/work.
You could also have CGs where people need to constantly supply that base with goods for the Colonia ship to take - this could be on going even if the ship is on its travels.
Maybe a ship in the class of Fishers Rest.
