Gentle Reminder to be Polite

I've been on the forums here and there today, and I'm a little surprised how angry some people are, or how rude they way they're choosing to say things is. Making a game this complex is hard, and even professional game devs have feelings. Feedback is incredibly important, and definitely needed. Issues and complaints help the dev team do their jobs to the best of their ability. But rudeness isn't going to help anyone. Any game, regardless of how polished, old, or how many people worked on it, will have glitches. Detailed feedback will help the dev team sort it out. But I wouldn't think anyone would want to hear some of the things people are saying after 2 years of incredibly hard work.

The big bugs will be squished as soon as possible I'm sure, and as far as animals you wish you had in game or features you feel are missing- there's always DLC or patches. There's a huge number of animals in game already, and I'm positive we'll be getting more in the future. New features and systems can be added over time. Frontier has been absolutely wonderful through this whole process. They've already demonstrated they're listening to the Community feedback by adding in an offline franchise mode, and their presence on the forums. I'd say, let's have a little faith in the team who has already worked so hard on the game, and a little patience.

If you find bugs or have any issues, file a report with as much detail as you can give. Add to this great community and game by helping as much as you can, kindly. I understand that things can be frustrating, especially in a game that you love. But reasonable expectations and calmly given feedback is the best way to improve this game that we all care so much for.

That's my two cents, anyways. Thanks. ☺

I think part of the issue is that people have been waiting so long for a zoo game and the hype was huge. The potential is all there, some work does need to be done, but hopefully people will chill out a bit and explore the game more. I was very bummed not seeing much of any social interactions with my bonobos but eventually saw a cute mother/daughter interaction. I think maybe when they tweaked the animal lifespans the frequency of social interactions could have become too low or it was just set too low to start with. Most issues people are bringing up can be fixed and Frontier has an incentive to fix them if they intend to sell DLC.

Developers have thicker skins than you give them credit for. You kind of have to have thick skin to work in this industry (speaking from experience as a game developer myself). Does that excuse people from casting out angry words? Of course not, but an important part of being a developer is to weed out the important critique from the useless hate.

I think a lot of frustration comes from the fact a lot of people saw what the game was like during beta, and then seeing all-too familiar bugs that caused us much grief during the beta. It leaves a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouth.

That and honestly no matter what you do nowadays someone is sure to find fault with it so again, weeding out the helpful from the unhelpful.

Honestly what annoys me the most right now is People complaining that 'x' animal wasn't put into the game. I'm thrilled to have 70+ animals to play with, and sure I'm disappointed over some animals not being in, but I ain't complaining. Wait until I get all those animals in one zoo, then I'll be hoping for DLC lol.

I definitely agree that the hype is a big reason why people are so energized. I mean, I was so excited for today I made sure I had nothing else to do today- all the housework done, no plans with anyone, just me and my PC for as long as possible. 😂 It's been over 10 years since we could look forward to a zoo game with this much depth, and now that I'm playing it, no game I've ever experienced comes close. There's definitely things I wish were in the game- my biggest wish would be a lineage (family tree) in game and newborn/egg stages, along with nesting behaviors. I definitely feel confident that Frontier is going to keep working on the game, both in the form of patches and DLC, so I'm not too worried about anything I feel is missing. There's so much content here it's mind boggling.

I know the devs would be used to some people eating their shirts over minor issues, and didn't mean to infer that they couldn't handle it. It just caught me off guard to see so much anger in the forums just a few hours after release. Like, no one has had any real time to dig into the game yet, and there were so many "but why is this bug still a thing worst game ever" or why don't we have penguins I literally only bought this game for penguins." I'm exaggerating, of course. My only brush with the games industry is in concept art, and I know if I'd been on the team that had made PZ I'd have felt a bit deflated to read all of the people who were so angry over small things. There's certainly a lot of valid criticisms out there too, and for the most part I'm happy to see the community so active, even on day 1.

The problem I see in forums like this, isn't what one has to say, but how one says it. They might have their valid reasons, but with the wrong attitude, people will see them as annoying nuisances.

And please, be patient. They've got many other things to do than cater to your super specific needs, like improving their other games or even developing this game in other places.
