Genuine thread needing motivation coming back to Elite, my best Vr / Sim Experience ever!

Hello Commanders. I need your help a bit. I've been playing Elite for a couple years now going back to the days of the Oculus DK2 prior to the Rift's release. I can still remember the first time I played in Vr on the DK2. I literally %($&ed myself at how immersive and beautiful the game was (even with worse hardware) and staying up far beyond my wife's comfort level for the first few months. I was like a kid all over again (39 now), up late for hours after putting kids to be just enamored by VR and Elite itself.

Over the last few years I've played Elite in waves. It really is a good sim but, to respectfully complain a bit, I don't really know what to do if I come back. All I've done since the new patch is outfit my ASP for mining and try out the new mining mechanics. COOL! Overall, I like a bit of everything. I'm somewhat into combat (pve), enjoy changing it up and mining with the new mechanics (and even liked the old style for relaxation in vr), and even like trading. Explored a bit for 5,ooo light year trips as well. I have modest assets in Elite. An Any 1/4 engineered, Chieftain, and Asp. 40 mill credits. So a decent start to branch out from.

With all that I've enjoyed in Elite you could say that I'm open minded. I completely get that the goal is "the journey" and understand that. Still, I like to feel like I have something more of a goal. For now, things I'm interested in are -

1 - See every ship in the game in VR. Enjoy them I guess...and their differences...or something???
2 - Engineer most ships???
3 -Finally engage in Thargoid gameplay?
4 - Perhaps I could have one trader, one combat, and one mining ship in the bubble and sort of swap in between them for uses?
5 - Do some VR canyone runs like 777Driver did back in the day? Explore neat anomalies etc?

I love the game and vibe.....just need some help or ideas to get back into a great sim. Please share any thoughts on what you like and maybe something will something will hit home I haven't thought of.

Thank you!

Win 10. 64, 1080ti, Rift user. Volair Sim cockpit setup with a Simshaker I ordered from Russia. Pretty fun setup!

Sounds like you've already got a pretty good list going there.

As for having multiple ships... you certainly can - I have 71, spread across space, in different places, for different uses, depending on what I want to do.

Personally, I've set off on an epic adventure around the rim of the galaxy. Of things I like to do, well, right now it's Exploring. But I also enjoy a bit of xeno-archaeology (Guardian Ruins/Thargoid Sites), Mining, Hauling, Trading, Scavenging, even some combat - and of course, hauling rich, entitled passengers out to exotic locations. And all of these have received some much-needed spit and polish.

Combat brings us a few new ships. Mining has been massively overhauled. Exploration has been massively overhauled. New scenarios have been added to certain signal sources. New anomalies have been found. There's plenty to do, just jump in and start doing it.

Join a group.

It gives structure to your gameplay.

It’s kind of like deciding by tossing a coin.
If you don’t like the thing the coin is telling you to do, then now you know you want to do the other thing.
That’s how I feel about a group.
They’re always busy with something, but sometimes that doesn’t appeal and I go off and do a thing else.
