German Gamemag Gamestar doesnt Rate Elite Dangerous

Basically they are saying while the game totally catches the spirit of the original Elite, it is, in their oppinion, not done yet, and that is why they wont rate it yet.

Ill try to translate the summary of the Article:

To avoid any eventual misunderstandings: I loved the original Elite! I am playing Dangerous since Alpha and i dont need any red blinking arrows that explain the game to me. I dont care about Cutscenes, i use a HOTAS Combo, i love getting into complicated and difficult games and i have patience.

Still i am upset that, even though David Braben creates a giant believable Universe that radiates Elite feeling in every corner, with great flightmodel, exciting dogfights, interesting ships and plenty of ways to setup the equipment of your ships, he manages to screw up on basic things like random missions, prebuild texts for those missions, leaves ingame contexts completely incoherent and unexplained and delivers absolutely no element of surprise.

Sure, Elite isnt Wing Commander, and Dangerous isnt Star Citizen. But the world of Gamedesign moved on, the players of old dont like realtime limitations and overly long frustrating search missions straight out of the random number generator. Please, before you add things like planet landing, more ships and grouping, make the game more 'rounded', thats so much more important.

I WILL stick to it, because the skeleton of this game is great, and it is really 'Elite pure'.

Alpha, Beta and Gamma have shown that they are able to implement changes quick.

(translated from german to english, excuse eventual mistranslations but i think im close to the original).

Certainly, if this game was on Steam, it'd still be deep within the realms of "Early Access", in spite of its outward polish... and to be honest a lot of us, I suspect, are hoping that the developers see it this way too. A lot of work to be done.

ridiculous. They are quick to bash everything which is not 100% done on release and they spare this one? Aww cute. Give them a cookie.

They should rate it based on its released state. If FD really wanted a more "rounded" game at release, they would have released one.

I can see your point, but at the end of the day, everybody knows Elite was released prematurely (FD know, the reviewers know and we know) and it shows that they are going to keep working hard on it. So why be jerks when we all are on the same side of the road? Let them make their game and enjoy it. FD set the release date, and FD made a mess of it. If they hadn't said anything and we were playing "beta 25" instead of "1.04" you wouldn't be asking for blood. There's really no need. Yeah, it's 1.03. I'm playing with your feelings.

The true point is about missions. Having to check several USS which is a tedious time consuming task every time is not exactly optimal.
I said it earlier and i just can repeat: Missions is THE game element that can make the game attractive for the average player. It can make the difference between a game for fans (<80% rating) or for everyone (>80% rating).

yes, missions should be a viable way to progress through the game, currently they arent

To clarify I was "spot on" remarking on their criticism, not on the somewhat pathetic fact that they're withholding rating it, since they should... because it IS released.

This indeed!

Sorry but not rating the game at launch is a complete cop out.

Elite is more ready than a lot of games at launch that got rated.

You're wrong. Show me one official advertisement, web page or email that clearly, and not in some side-sentence or packed in a fancy phrase tells the potential customers clearly that they'll get an unfinished product for 50€. And talking about promises... Remember offline single player? It would have been honest to place somewhere big label "IN DEVELOPMENT RELEASE" or "EARLY ACCESS" on the store page but they didn't. So it could and should probably be rate in it's current state.

Gamestar has been pretty honest and forgiving that they didn't rate it yet. They could have just given it a bad rating as well but they decided to not do so, so be thankful. Also the article matches pretty much what I said before an got bashed and yelled at by the die hard fanboys who still deny that the game isn't done yet and lacks compelling game play and depth.

Most MMOs get rated at least a month after they come out, it's not that uncommon. Especially after all the AAA titles getting rave reviews and flopping quickly after in the last years (WAR,AoC for example)

I find USSes easy and quickly to skim through. The lower your supercruise speed, the closer USSes appear to spawn, and the quicker you can get to them by just a short speed burst. Most times however I can just exit supercruise as I'm already in range.

You got bashed for saying that or for the way you said it and how you related to people who didn't agree?

Most people who have problems of that type, once explained how to do it, usually gets it.
