Get CQC to the main Galaxy !

I don't know why but I feel like FDev assumed like CQC was dead for good, I don't think it is... I mean yes nobody plays that anymore, a few dedicated pilots yeah. It could be so much more !

How come this didn't make it in the main game ? It could be a completely new gameplay loop related to combat ! Imagine flying your ship to some location, with a giant space stadium or whatever, engaging in different types of PVP/PVE activity. You could choose between flying your own ship or maybe taking part in fighter combat ? Rent one and why not bet some ships, I don't know, throwing ideas here.

Hey, the whole thing could be tied to Squadrons, with leaderboards and champions/stats. (The CQC rank would finally have a meaning) It could even be something that other players choose to spectacte, in any form you want to imagine. (I'm picturing a giant station like structure, glass walls, cmdrs spectating from outside).

I don't know, I feel like there's great material laying around here... something that could potentially bring more meaning to PVP. Players right now either have to search for pirates/griefers/poor souls or plan events to encounter PVP, this could bring such players together in something actually related to the lore and galaxy !

This probably isn't the first thread on the CQC topic, but I'd like to read your thoughts on that.
 
I really like CQC, so these ideas are pretty interesting. You could have entire systems dedicated to CQC, with boundaries set up to keep travelers out of arenas and keep combatants in. Contestants could "check in" to special stations, which would be typed with only small, medium, or large pads (Flyweight, Middleweight, Heavyweight Leagues basically). After check in, players would fly to arena boundaries, there would be continuous free for all combat going on within the bounds. Fighter CQC could still be done via the main menu, but take place in designated arenas in realspace.

For players taking part in CQC with their own ships, maybe some kind of specialized insurance option so rebuys wouldn't get out of hand?

So much potential here. :)
 
This is speculation. FD originally intended CQC to become an E-sport, they even had a plan for a tournament with a 100K prize purse at one stage. This is why it's a completely separate product. If they had succeeded it would've been great free publicity for the main game.
 
Pretty much.
IMHO, they should have introduced it into the main game; with in-game rewards and all the trappings.
After giving the feature time to take hold, they could then open it up as a stand-alone product as well; players in-game or out of game would be connecting to the same servers, so it makes no difference.

I think a lack of interest, despite the 100k prize, ultimately made them realise they rushed it and then shelved whatever plans they had for it.

There is so much they could do with it if they just added it to the main game. Hopefully one day.

Most of the players enjoy CQC, but they don't really stick to it because it's so detached from the main game... I'm glad to see I'm not the only one hoping for more on this topic ! :)

I'm not sure about E-sport, could be a thing. I'm pretty sure the main goal was to promote the game via another service, one that is less time consuming and possibly more attracting to a broader range of players ?

I've not played CQC for a while now and sometimes forget it's even there. Would be nice to see it as an option below Join multi-crew saying Join the Arena where we could switch straight into the Arena and play CQC, and as soon as we leave CQC, we either go straight back to our ship, exit to main menu or exit the game.

Maybe if Frontier adds it; show how many people are currently in the Arena so we know we will get a fight. This could be located either in one of the side panels or under, Join the Arena.
