Gettin my butt-kicked! Go on, I know you want to ...

I am still experimenting of course but here are my initial settings and observations if anyone finds then helpful.

Warning long post.

I am sitting directly on the BK to get max effect at the lowest volumes - normal swivel office chair with arms.

I don't have any fancy suround sound, so use stero headphone out on generic PC sound card, y splitter to bose headphones, and BK with the phones to BK splitter to AMP. I have found the connectors to be very sensetive my headphone jack doesn't work all the way in, I need to back it out a fraction to get a good connection, otherwise volume is very low. I am going to replace the cables with some high quality components. If you aren't getting a good signal to the amp that's first place to go look.

Windows 7 - headphone volume at 75 percent, Elite at 100 percent in generic windows mixer.

In game - audio - optimize dynamic range - BOOST. Effects on MAX and music is MUTE.

The amp BKA-130-C is harder to read and setup as there is no volume dial or meter. With low filter cut off in, HCF cut off out and dial at 40 (lowest). Start the game, go into SC and blast your discovery scanner - this is the loudest effect in the game and is like an earthquake at high volume. Turn up the volume by pressing up of down - short presses not hold - until you start to feel the BK start thumping and the green signal light starts to flash - this could need several pushes before you get any response at all. If the green light is flashing you are getting a signal the BK should be thumping. If the red light flashes you are 'overdriving' the amp - this is OK as long as it is not constant only for volume peaks. Adjust the volume until you find a comfortable setting for your bum.

The amp doesn't remember last settings, just start from lowest and work upward until I find the level I want. The power button on the front takes a second to activate - tap the button then wait for power up it is not instant when cold.

Sitting directly on the BK is not the most comfortable experience but it is woth it to get every rumble of the engines. The pillows work well and you can move it all around, I have it placed horisontal under my thighs and I feel as if I am now in a fighter pilots seat. I feel connected to my ship in a way I never imagined.

When tuning your rig you need another person to provide feedback on level opf sound and vibration they experience at different proximities. When you are on the chair you feel everything, even the computer announcements. In the sitting room bellow where previously the room shook there is now only a muffled rumble.

So I mentioned the discovery horn - the volume for me became annoying quickly. My fillings started to ache with each blast, so I had to fix that. My VoiceAttack macro for scanning calls command line utility 'nircmd.exe changesysvolume -40000' to lower from 75 percent to about 5% for the duration of the blast then bring it up again.

Press down F key
Pause 5 seconds
Run application 'nircmd.exe ' with parameters 'changesysvolume -40000' and wait until it completes
Pause 4 seconds
Release F key
Pause 1 second
Run application 'nircmd.exe ' with parameters 'changesysvolume 40000'

If anyone has anything else to add or hints at tips please add your comments.

I truely recommend this to anyone who wants to feel the game - not just look at it, or be in it with a DK2. The combination is mind blowing. I have crosswind pedals on order to complete the kit - then upgrade CPU, RAM and MoBo. I dont have room for a gaming chair or simpit but maybe someday. CV1 or eqivalent if available first is on my Christmas list ... ... who knows what this game will drive me to next in my quest for further out of body experiences.

Nanu Nanu Commanders.

I made a whole app for managing sub woofer volume base on HOTAS usage. i.e press boost and the app dips the sub durring the the charge phase to counter the excessive rumbling, then turns it up for the after burn before returning it normal operation. That's just a small portion of what it does but you get the idea. The app is tied to my X-55 and any sound card compatible with the 'VA' library for AHK.

Here are my sound settings for Buttkicker with headphones, if it helps. Also I have the BK turned to only about 1/3 volume and no filters and it shakes the chair plenty without bothering my wife (chair is on a carpet).

I did have some trouble getting the BK to work. Enable bass management is the key and I think I may have needed to reboot iirc. These settings are also adjustable through the Windows control panel.

damn you people! stop this madness!!! :p

I just ordered my DK2, and 10 min later find myself ordering a buttkicker thanks to this forum!
This is like gaming crack! (and i still need to get that new vid card too... ugh)

oh well, at least I'm racking up the reward miles on my credit card.

Great review, I have just received mine 3 days ago and can confirm that it is a game changer.

Glad to hear that the red clipping light is ok if it comes on occasionally as I was worried I might burn it up. It only comes on in Iracing when I have a crash or run of course which doesn't happen too often lol. Elite is amazing but really does need simvibe to drive the correct vibration. That said it will happen soon so I can cope with how it is which is just astonishing. I find the grunt of the cobra a perfect match for the buttkicker.

Going to add some arm rests to my chair so I can mount the hottas on then use my Dayton pucks for feedback when I throttle up. It's a must buy guys, don't strap something as awesome as a rift to your face and play with a mouse or use basic sound as you are just not doing this VR thing right.

don't get into sim racing then... costs ALOT more

Further reading indicates that the BKA-130-C is underpowered for the BK-G2 transducer, I'd keep an eye on the clipping and make sure it is only rare spikes. I think this may be important during extended periods of combat when you get carried way in the action and the constant explosions, and it's even harder to monitor with a DK2. Don't constantly overdrive the 130 - there is the risk of burn out if you abuse it. I have since seen lot of posts about burned out 130s - start low and set the volume for each session in increments.

If you do have problems or the effects are not what you expect, consider replacing the stock with a higher rated AMP. Because the 130 is underpowered for the BK-G2 you only feel the extremes in the soundscape (still amazing) - a better amplifier will give better fidelity to the more subtle vibrations you will feel especially at lower volumes (better) and allow the BK-G2 to be driven at it's optimum. It will also solve any other problems associated with 130, like waiting to wake from standby, not getting a signal etc. I have an iNuke 1000 DSP on order so that I can preserve the 130 should I ever want to upgrade further and sell the BK-G2 on as a complete kit. Having experienced the Low Frequency Effects there is no going back for me.

@Andovar - it really is worth it - let us know how you get on.

Or if fromtier gets off their ass then we will have perfection when sim commander is used.

Ill echo dont try assetto corsa!
Simm commander and assetto with gamer 2 is insanely good
Sim commander can record your lap, show telemetry data (throttle, bumps, etc)
And you can customize the buttkickers response to each value range. Its unbeleviebly better than just using the buttkicker and amp from basic audio...the biggest reason your missing certain vibes is this

Hi Cylon,

How easy would it be to adapt for a Warthog or make it configurable - it sounds like a great VR utility?

Thx B-Z

It could be done. The program uses the joysticks assigned number in Windows, not the device ID so I see no reason why it couldn't be adapted. I have only tested the app on Realtek sound cards, but the app uses AHK, VA library (Vista Audio) so it should work with anything that is compatible with that.

You would need your buttkicker connected via the sub out port - not using the splitter cables. You also need to use both Supercruise / warp buttons in game - not the combined button which does both. I also use a button to reset the sub level should anything go wrong - i.e. the app cannot detect in game actions, so if you are interdicted it wouldn't know and would still have your sub set to the supercruise value rather than standard engine operations. So the reset button puts everything back to normal.

To adapt it I would need to known your sticks assigned number in Windows - both if like, the X55, the throttle and stick are separate devices. I'd also need to know your button layout in stick number, button number and function. As I say for the Supercruise stuff to work you need to use the separate controls for each, not the combined button. I also use a button to enable / Disable hardpoints, not the deploy on primary fire option - this is also important.

I.E: 1joy2 - primary fire (Joystick 1, button 2, Primary Fire)
2joy5 - Supercruise (Joystick 2, button 5, Supercruise)
2joy6 - System Warp
2joy7 - Landing Gear

At the moment the app uses configurable profiles for each ship type, you can save each profile with the settings your prefer. Each profile needs to be loaded manually so that means 'alt - tab'n' out of elite when you change ship in order to change profile in EliteSub-FX. It would be nice to integrate the OCR stuff into the app so this happened on the fly.. if that's possible....

At some stage I'd like to make the EliteSub-FX's joystick setup configurable via a GUI.... so the source wouldn't need editing for different stick assignments or button layout.... I guess that's the difference between a personal project and something for the public domain. To be honest by this time I fully expected SimVibe to be working with Elite Dangerous and thus making my app redundant. Sadly SimVibe still doesn't work with Elite and I find the whole SimVibe teams responses to requests of this nature and overall attitude to Elite and Flight Sims in general extremely disappointing.

If you know how to use AHK I'm happy to share the source with you. Although the source may take a bit of unraveling due to the heavy use of loops and sub routines...

And yeah, I find it a great VR utility, I've just upgraded for use with GTA V. I now feel every stone on the road and engine rev while driving, without crazy loud rumbles while walking as a ped... So it certainly has it's uses.

I just got the buttkicker the other day, and am loving it. Don't even have the DK2 yet, but it's still awesome!

But now you're worrying me a bit. As I've seen that red clipping light come on quite a bit.
I've already dumped a good sum of cash into this setup, really don't feel like spending more at the moment.
I can keep it toned down enough to where it doesn't come on a lot, but it doesn't seem like there's any way to avoid it. If you get into some extended combat, it seems it's still going to come on quite a bit, even if it's set to a lower intensity. Boosting, explosions, etc. always send it into the 'clip zone'.

Suppose i could just run with it as is, and if I burn it out, then worry about buying another amp.

grodenglaive, I notice that the subwoofer and audio-out plugs are the ones used in your pic. Does that mean you have the BK plugged into the subwoofer(orange), and headphones into the standard audio-out(green)?
I was never able to get it to work that way. Though not sure if I tried that 'enable bass management' setting. Might have to try that again.
Right now I'm just using the splitter off my headset.

Folks, its not going to be long before sim commander supports ED.

If you want to further the cause, email these and request Elite Dangerous support. They already support tons of games and some non racing games, lets get ED to the front of the priority list.

here is a screen shot of the capabilities:

main menu of games and profiles and the control panel.
here you can adjust the elements from the game and what effect is applied directly to it
(throttle, impacts, lasers, cannons, boost, etc!!!)
Simulator_Software_Tuning_large.jpg
Control panel again
svenigne_zps799a4f18.jpg
lap telemetry customization.
So you could go for a 2-3 minute ride around with your Anaconda, then go back to the simCommander. View the results of your mini venture, and apply min/max throttle accordingly and lasers/cannons, etc.
In racing games we use this to set the max rpm and min rpm ranges, etc.
Lap_Telemetry_Logging_OwnersClub.jpg
Remember this is how its supposed to be, when you use buttkicker and "general game audio" its not accurate and precise, thats why people are creating all these odd macros and disable sound when scanner is pressed etc...so ridiculous.
playing assetto corsa before sim commander and after was night and day.

EMAIL and request support! they said Frontier has not expressed any interest or made any contact with SimExperience team. Lets change that.

Check my last post in this thread - that's how I manage the Buttkicker currently. No red light for me and vibration in all situations and nothing too over powering.

Check out the the official forums, I asked them to contact Frontier when David asked us what we needed out of API's here on the forums..... I feel you are a little to optimistic. But yeah, if you don't own the product email them, just maybe they will realize the £££'s they're missing out on in sales, if you do own SimVibe / commander please reply to my post on their forum showing your support, its hard to miss.

I emailed Bernie and he said Frontier has never made contact with them.

its in both of their interests to get on this.

optimistic maybe, but we can help push the cause along.

I know exactly what is needed from frontier and its childsplay to get the ball rolling.
I have been trying to get the data myself like x-sim, but without a dev version of sim commander its near impossible to implement.

I agree it is down to both but at the end of the day the SimVibe team has most to gain in terms of sales from their product supporting more games. Waiting for developers to contact them when they will make the profit is a little foolish.... in this situation Frontier requested people contact them with API requests, I made the Simvibe guys well aware of this and they chose not to act....when it was in their and their customers intrrests.

I love Simvibe. The difference between a standalone buttkicker and one used with that software is night and day.

interesting, didnt know that you tried to get them talking already.

so i guess if enough people email them, they will make contact with Frontier.
