Newcomer / Intro Getting a Commander Name?

I'm returning to ED after being away for a couple of years. I've deleted all I did previously including my Commander Name. It is to be a totally fresh start. However, when I boot-up and press START, it just takes me to the basic flight tutorial and I am commander non identified. How do I give myself a name? Thank you.

I see at the forum, I haven't been forgotten. At least I have a player name here. ;)

If i'm not mistaken you will get to chose a name past the basic flight tutorial

Guess they got fed registering commander names for people that abandon before even completing the basic flight tutorial...

For those of you who remember me, I'm now an 80 year old with a shocking memory. Hence, although I have been here before and had progressed to doing landings and take-offs; it has all gone. Sad really, but true. I can't even move around the cockpit to operate the instruments. But I'm working on it. That's the trouble: the basic tutorials are not basic enough for me. Hence my CMDR naming question. :D

Found a CMDR Name!
I skipped the Tutorials and pressed START and it took me the CMDR naming page! My original name of WOMBAT1940 was already given, but (just to see) I re-named myself WOMBAT80 (can't think why 🤭) and continued. Just finally, I've returned to the MAIN MENU and selected the TUTORIAL Tab so as to complete the tutorials which I had previously skipped to get a CMDR Name. Sorry, just added all this detail as it might help others looking for help. WOMBAT80 OUT.

Thanks Tyres ....... No, unfortunately it won't, but so be it. 🤫 However, I going to really walk my way through it this time. Very slow, very steady, and recording it (ie. writing it down) every step of the way. And some things, irrespective of however elementary, I will question here and highlight useful responses here.

Well, this place is the place! Always get the needed responses here :D

Your old commander name is attached to the account that used it. If you are using the same account, then you can use that commander name.

Welcome back. (y)

Bloody hell !! Wingy ..... how are you mate ...... some things never change. Actually, I've been "stuck" here in Bali since my return flight to Oz was canceled back in April. Great place to be "stuck" of course. Have a regular "women" now ......... My ship's named after her. At 80 years of age, she's been and still is a gift sent from God. How lucky ..... :) Sorry, enough about my personal life. 🤫

Welcome back to the Elite Galaxy commander!

I remember you from quite a while ago. Too bad your Elite-related memories are gone. I guess you also lost memory of the resources listed below. ;) Have a look at them and don't hesitate to ask questions here in the forum.

In-game help is available in the form of menu links to the Pilot's Handbook and the Codex (right-hand cockpit panel 1st tab).
For a very good beginner's guide see: An in-depth beginner’s guide to Elite: Dangerous.
Tutorials covering all aspects of the game, many of them on video, are available from ED Tutorials.
There is a wealth of useful information available in these forums spread out over hundreds of threads. Thanks to commander @Alec Turner you can access all of that information and more via a single thread: Alec's best of the forum (and elsewhere) [v2].
Also check out the inara.cz and eddb.io websites with (almost) realtime info on practically everything in the game.
The coriolis.io and edsy.org websites let you design your ships before buying them.
And last but not least, the Elite Dangerous Wiki contains extensive information on nearly all aspects of the game.

Thanks Krieger. I can handle my total ED losses. Its forgetting people that I met and got to know say 6 months ago that hurts. My lady friend, in a quiet moment, has to briefs me on who they were...... sad, but true .....however, here's :D . Thanks for the resources list. Will check them all out carefully. (y) But one thing I have learned since being back: imperative to do all the tutorials! I'm going to do that now. Even before I learn manual take-offs. The basic tutorial uses auto take-off, so ..... so will I. ;)
Only things not in, or understood in the tutorials, will I raise here. Thanks again.

Welcome back. :)
I actually envy you that you'll be able to experience the game completely anew. I sometimes reset my commander, but because I know too much I just blaze through the start, usually.
This is something I wish I could do when comes to games and films - to forget them completely and play/watch them fresh again. :)
